Weimaraner Breed Spotlight
The Weimaraner has remained purebred and basically free of crossbreeding ever since they were first recorded in the official breed stud book. He is, therefore, the oldest German pointing breed, having been purebred for about 100 years.
The breed has a laid-back and affectionate temperament. They are sociable dogs who will do best when fully integrated into the family and are usually happy to meet strangers. These are also very energetic dogs who will be restless and destructive if they do not get enough daily exercise.
He is intelligent and learns quickly but may be somewhat stubborn. He excels in dog sports such as obedience, agility, tracking, retrieving, and conformation dog shows. The difference in appearance between males and females is easily recognised.
Weimaraners come in silver or grey of various shades, sometimes with white markings on the chest or toes.
The decision to own a Weimaraner needs careful consideration, as they require an active person with a keen interest in the companion dog, someone prepared to give the dog the regular exercise, love and attention they will demand. He is an intelligent breed and learns quickly, but some may be stubborn. Training should be started when young and should be firm, consistent and gentle. They are dogs that do not kennel well. They do not like to be relegated to the backyard and forgotten; they like to be with you as part of the family.

The Jack Russell breed takes its name from one of England’s hunting parsons, the Reverend John (or Jack) Russell from Devon, who established the breed in the early 19th century. The Reverend, being a keen fox hunter, needed an agile dog with plenty of spirit that could keep up with hounds and have the courage to face up to its quarry underground.
Jacks are generally a fearless or quietly confident dog, neither aggressive nor shy. He is lively, active and alert. They can be strong willed, independent and dominant. They are also loving, loyal, and incredibly brave for their size.
Jack Russells make great pets for families with owners who have the time to train them. They are an intelligent breed and pick up directions quickly. They are not for everyone though. They should be taught, from the moment they are brought home, with the basics like’’ sit ‘’and ‘’come’’. They can be very rough when playing, so be aware of this with young children, as they like to nip when playing. Jacks like nothing better than being with their families and can live quite comfortably in a house or unit, so long as they are given daily attention and exercise.
