"Reptarium" is a family owned business in the Dandenong ranges, Victoria. We have a great range of tropical and cold water fish, aquatic plants, tanks, filters, pumps and accessories. Live reptiles,including snakes, lizards, turtles and frogs are available, enclosures, as well as live and frozen fooods. Stockists of "lifewise" dog and cat food, we also supply toys, bedding, coats and accessories

for small animals too. Aquarium set ups and maintenance are available through our store for your home or office. Call us for a free quote during business hours :)

If you have been into the shop you have most likely met my bird Boo the Blue Fronted Amazon - she has become quite the chatter box lately.
One thing I have leant since getting her a year ago at 2 weeks old is the importance of nutrition for birds, so I have created a list of foods good and bad for birds share with you all.

Safe Fruit and Vegetables

THINGS YOU SHOULD NEVER FEED YOUR BIRD
* Caffeine, Tea, Coffee, Chocolate
* Onion, Rhubarb, Avocado, Raw Beans

These foods are toxic to birds!!! While they may not harm your bird immediately, feeding your bird these foods will cause them long lasting damage.Fruit and vegetable are fantastic for your bird, they do not serve as a complete diet and should be supplemented with other dry foods such as seeds, nuts and pellets. Pellet foods have come a long way and where possible we suggest putting your bird on a premium pellet mix over a seed mix. Birds will often pick out the least healthy seeds from a mix, such as sunflower seeds (which are very fatty), and won't gain the nutrition they need. A good quality pellet on the other hand, will act as a complete diet.Pellets can create less mess (no seed husks left behind) and can greatly improve a birds feather quality, bone development and general health, especially for birds that don’t eat a variety of foods.

Olive pythons are one of the largest snakes in Australia, reaching up to 6m long and over 60kg, with the largest of the species and the heaviest snake in Australia living in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.
Olives make great and easy captives, They are low maintenance and have good personalities. It should be noted that Olive Pythons can grow up to 6m in length and will need to be housed appropriately. Olive Pythons have a lifespan of 15 – 20 years.
As with a lot of Pythons they can be a bit snappy as juveniles, but once one year and over Olive Pythons can become one of the best handling snakes available. �They are great swimmers and will hunt in water courses. Once they catch prey they kill it by wrapping their coils around it so that the animal suffocates because it can no longer draw in air (constriction).�The Olive python is native to Australia, found in the northern parts of Australia - Queensland, Northern Territory and Western Australia. Olive pythons are a large terrestrial and semi-arboreal python, predominately found in open woodlands, savannah, rocky hillsides, swamps and river edges.

Adults measure 2-3.6 m (6.5-12 ft.) in length; average adult length is 2.4 m (8 ft.) carpet python hatchlings are approximately 30 cm (12 in.) in length
Even though a carpet python is not warm-blooded, a female can raise her body temperature by twitching her muscles. This muscular activity creates enough warmth to incubate the eggs. The incubation temperature of the eggs may determine the young snakes' sexes, just as with some other reptiles.�The carpet python can live more than 20 years in the natural environment, and even longer in controlled settings.
Carpet pythons are found in Australia (except central western and extreme southeastern regions) and New Guinea.
They live in a variety of habitats from eastern coastal rain forests to central desert areas.
