Freedom for Farmed Rabbits campaign uncovers the disturbing conditions that exist behind shed doors

Currently across Australia, thousands of domestic rabbits are factory farmed, confined to raised wire cages for the entirety of their lives before being slaughtered for meat. Freedom for Farmed Rabbits, a Melbourne-based organization, is working to uncover the disturbing conditions which exist behind shed doors and abolish this largely unknown industry. Rabbits raised in these factory environments

are unable to display any forms of natural behaviour and often suffer severe psychological trauma. Fighting, injuries and disease are rife, with farms reporting up to a 40% mortality rate, one of the highest of any industry. Governed by nothing more than a voluntary code of practice, farms often go completely unlicensed and unregulated. While petitioning and protesting against companies that profit from rabbit exploitation, Freedom for Farmed Rabbits also works to educate the public so that the demand for rabbit flesh and fur is removed. The organization therefore highlights the unconscionable practice by targeting consumers and suppliers alike, as well as government. These poor dogs desperately need to be rescued from the pound as their time is up. To save them, they require foster carers. Is anyone able to foster so as they are saved? They only have until morning.

For 15 years, we have been exposing the cruelty inside rabbit farms in Australia, The ultimate and horrific fate of these rabbits has been unattainable for the public to see - until now!

This is an Australian first. This footage obtained by will show the public just what happens to these gentle and intelligent animals once they reach approximately 10 weeks old, or their productivity expires.

Initially, this picture of the cheekiest bun currently at the rescue was taken for Valentines Day. However, we had terrible storms here in Melbourne at that time, and we were without internet for over a week and missed our chance to post.

Not that Buster needs a special occasion to be posted. We thought this Easter, his adorable face should accompany the message - Bunnies are for life! Not Easter gifts or any special occasion. This includes children's birthday presents (we get many of these requests for adoption)

Rabbits are complicated and can be expensive. Please always adopt, don't shop! A reputable rescue will always help you with the adoption process and make sure a rabbit is suited to you and your home.

Biscuit (previously Tony) has been ADOPTED 🥳 This is big news for this little guy! He has found a gorgeous bunwife and a beautiful loving family.

A quick and huge thank you to Beary Fuzzy Forever Rescue which we have been working very closely with the last couple of months to make all this possible. Thank you for dedication, time and hard work 🫶🏾

Now, back to work at finding more great homes ❤️

WOW! Thank you to EVERYONE for supporting Freedom for Farmed Rabbits and our fundraiser event Meet the Adoptables 😍 We are humbled by the show of love and support we received from those who donated, made purchases, who came to meet animals up for adoption, or even just popped by to show us support. We are incredibly grateful for you all.

We want to take a moment to individually thank these people & groups-

First and foremost, we'd like to say a big thank you to Beary Fuzzy Forever Rescue, particularly Kathryn Jayne Roberts, and our FFR volunteers whose teamwork and creativity steered this event from day one of planning. There was a lot of time and organising that went into this event, and we are so grateful to have you all. It was a pleasure working together with such amazing, hardworking, and engaging people.
Vegan Australia for hosting the sausage sizzle and welcoming all our guests which such happy and warm smiles. They had many positive and lovely conversations with our guests, and even bystanders. If you are a vegan fundraising group, we highly suggest having them at your next event! They were an absolute pleasure and breeze to with work with.
Sprinkles Face Painting for painting beautiful faces and bringing your skills and art to our day. Your artwork was phenomenal and brought on lots of smiles. Even the adults couldn't resist and wanted their faces painted too!
Bree & Co for kindly hosting our event at their wonderful store. They make high quality products for rabbits and guinea pigs, and have a gorgeous range of things. We highly recommend checking them out for some colourful, cute items for your fur kids!
Rise Up Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation for assisting with the bake sale and bringing along some delicious vegan treats. Having your presence on the day was a delight, and of course we admire your hard work and committment to save animals.

Now, we roll up our sleeves and continue with rescue and rehoming. Until all cages are empty, until all animals are free 👊🏽

From our friends at Beary fuzzy forever rescue: We are excited for our first "Meet The Adoptables Day" of 2024 which will be held on Sunday 7th of January and hope that you can all join us in store to meet some of our gorgeous animals who are looking for their forever homes.

We will also have some fun activities like colouring in and face painting as well as plenty of delicious vegan food to help raise much needed funding towards out vet expenses as we have lots of animals who need to be desexed in the new year so that they too can be ready to find forever homes.

Our sweet girl GiGi,who last year was left paralzyed after being hit by a car, has been hospitalised for the past 24 hours. Gigi had a severe case of constipation that may be caused by neurological issues. She had an emergency surgery today and is looking much brighter. However, she returns to hospital tomorrow for more tests and fluids.

We want to thank everyone who is participating in our Christmas raffle, as all proceeds go towards helping cases like GiGi and our bunnies.

🎉🥳 ADOPTED 🥳🎉

Phineas has been spending the last week bonding with his new wife bun, Jae! We are so thrilled that he has finally found his match and is off to start his new life with his new family. We’d like to thank our wonderful volunteers and Beary Fuzzy Forever Rescue for giving us a helping hand during this busy period of the year.

Phineas’ story: Phineas was saved by Freedom for Farmed Rabbits after we were made aware from a friend that he was locked in a horrible bird cage with a broken leg and no food. Luckily we were able to help Phineas with his leg and bring him back to good health, with his leg working just perfectly fine.

Honey & Brayden are still waiting for a loving forever home..

This is our second time posting them up as sadly we have had zero applications or interest for this gorgeous pair.

We want to share them again in the hopes that someone out there will open up their home to them. Honey and Brayden are very much in love and obsessed with each other so we'd like them to stay together. Both are very social, desexed, vaccinated, microchipped and litter trained!

Introducing HONEY & BRAYDEN

These two beautiful souls are madly in love and looking for a loving forever home together. Honey is a very confident, sweet girl who loves to be involved in everything around her (quite a sticky beak at times!) She is incredibly inquisitive and enjoys a good head rub and will repay you with plenty of entertainment with her happy binkies around the house!

Because of Honey's long luscious fur, it's recommended that she has professional grooming every 6-8 weeks to maintain not only her beauty, but also to help keep her comfortable and healthy. She has a lovely groomer that knows her well and will travel to her.

Brayden is the sweetest, most caring gentleman. He can be a little shy and unsure at first, but once he warms up and gets to know you, he really is a total sweet heart. As soon as he is settled into his surroundings he does the most adorable happy bunny flops that warm your heart to see him so comfortable.

Both bunnies are fantastic hay eaters and LOVE fresh veggies! Their favourite time of day is when they hear their pellet or treat packet crinkle! They will come charging over and do laps around your feet until they get their treat hit! These buns are currently in foster care with a family with kids, so they are quite use to the noise and chaos of family life!

If you are looking for two social, loved up bunnies, Honey and Brayden may just be the pair for you! They are desexed, vaccinated, microchipped and litter trained.

Remembering Harley, the rabbit rescued at the same time as Maya the lamb. Both were oppressed, both victims of different industries. Though incredibly different, both species were considered a means to an end.Both would not have lived to see their first birthday if they had not found refuge with us.

All beings deserve to live cruelty free!

This was the moment one very relieved little mum bunny left the pound, on her freedom ride with her precious cargo. Four little new born babies that she gave birth to shortly after arriving there. The pound is a scary place for animals, even more so when you have a several babies to care for. For almost a week this brave mum has nurtured her babies through tough times. Finally she can rest knowing they are safe and sound.

We are seeking a very special person to help us make Elliot's Christmas wish come true. This ginger kid needs a home! Elliot is the sweetest loveliest, smoochiest boy on the planet. No exaggeration. His happy place is in your arms. He's a bit of a chonky boy, and our arms are getting tired from cuddling this boy 😆 He is very needy to say the least. Elliot came from the streets, yet is so grateful to be saved he just wants a human all to himself. Due to being on the street and left with a untreated condition Eosinophilic Granuloma(in lamen terms, he can develop ulcers on his mouth) Elliot has lost all of his front teeth. He will live with this disease for life. However it is now easily managed with antibiotics, if he has a flare up. He has an appetite as big as his loving heart. So has no trouble eating The catch: Elliot being the needy snuggle bug he is, can get very jealous of other animals. So we are looking for someone who currently doesn't have other pets. It sounds like an impossible ask. However we believe there must be someone out there who is looking to receive all the love Elliot has to give and give a little back❤ Our inbox is open if you would like to know more. Little Ollie, blind and disabled. Yet still able to sense, hear and smell the world around him. He's loved and safe. The only world they will know, is the dark shed they were born into and the four walls of a slaughter house where they will die. For the sake of a meal.
