Tilly

This cute girl came to see us the other week and we were absolutely smitten with her. We don't get to see too many of these at all. Can you guess what breed Tilly is?

We will reveal the answer in the comments below soon ⬇️

Kevin

So the thing about Kevin is that when he comes in, all the nurses go a little lala over this handsome young man. I mean we can hear the excitement from the back of the hospital, and before you know it, he is surrounded by love.

But how can you not? We love seeing you so much Kevin, thank you for the endless cuddles you give us!

Dr Mary Ann

You probably have seen her around (we are a little slow to make it social media official), but nonetheless, we are thrilled to introduce you to Dr. Mary Ann.

She has been working as a small animal veterinarian for a few years now and we were fortunate to be able to welcome her to our team a couple of months ago.

We love having you around Mary Ann, the kindness and compassion you show your patients and collegues is admirable.

We are excited to have had the chance to welcome you on board.

🐍 Snake Bite Awareness 🐍

Snakes will avoid interactions with dogs or cats, but incidents occur when both animals are checking each other out. Dogs and cats may also chase or attempt to kill snakes, with cats in particular possessing a strong hunting instinct, making them more susceptible to snake bites.

✨ Prevention
Avoiding an interaction between your pet and snakes in the first place can be greatly reduced by:

• Keeping grass cut short at home
• Keeping your dog on a short leash when out walking
• Not allowing your dog to put their head into scrub or long grass
• Keeping hedges and trees trimmed and removing garden litter
• Don’t keep pet food outside, this attracts rats & mice, a favourite food source for snakes
• Remove any man-made materials around your yard (wood, tin etc.)
• Where possible, monitor your dogs when outdoors
• Keep your cat confined to indoors
• If you take your cat outside, make sure it remains in the confines of your property, and you're able to observe them at all times
• Install cat runs/enclosures with wire that's small enough to limit the ability of snakes to get inside (6.5mm)

✨ First
Don't attempt to catch, harm, kill or bring a live snake to the vets - this can risk harm to you, and wastes critical time needed to administer first aid to your pet

✨ Symptoms
It's important to be aware that animals respond differently to snake bites depending on the species of snake and the animal involved (including size, health, age and many other factors)

Typically the first signs a pet has been bitten (even if you don't see a snake) are a single vomit, followed by collapse then a seemingly rapid recovery, followed by a gradual decline in health

Progression of signs may include:
• Dilated pupils
• Weakness in hind legs
• Trembling
• Drooling and pale gums
• Difficulty breathing
• Bleeding from nose, mouth, re**um
• Loss of consciousness

🚨Contact your closest vet and attend with your pet immediately🚨

✨ Points
1. Remain calm and don’t panic, this is much easier to say then do however, keeping calm will soothe your pet and help minimise their distress
2. Don't waste time looking for a bite mark
3. Keep your pet calm and quiet, movement increases the spread of venom around the lymphatic system, so the less they move the slower the venom spreads
4. Carry your pet to the car DO NOT allow your pet to walk if you can avoid it

✨ Remember
Not all Australian snakes are venomous (not poisonous) and they'll only defend themselves against a perceived threat if they're unable to escape. Veterinary teatment depends on symptoms and diagnostic tests and can be expensive, so consider investing in pet insurance.

graduates

What a wonderful class we had these past four weeks, they have done so well!

A big congratulations to Honey, Billy, Phoebe, Murphy and Coco. And a massive thank you to nurse Bree, who will now be handing the classes over to nurse Jane as she prepares for maternity leave. We loved seeing Bree's puppies flourish and bounce back through the doors for their vet visits. Thank you for your wonderful care Bree!

We have some limited spots available for the next class starting November 12. If you would like to join us, please get in touch. Get in quickly to avoid disappointment.

Thank you Mimi for letting us have some cuddles.

Feliway ®

😾 Feliway® is a pheromone product that has been designed to aid cats and kittens when showing signs of stress and anxiety, such as urine spraying, scratching, fighting, over-grooming or hiding.

😸 All cats have a specific organ called the vomeronasal organ (VNO) to recognise pheromone signals in their environment. The VNO is located in the roof of their mouth. To detect pheromones your cat will open their mouth slightly, pull back their lips and inhale. Pheromones are used to reduce stress-related behaviour and ease interactions and emotions.

😽 Feliway® spray sends "happy messages" to cats which helps them to feel safe and secure when travelling, during a vet visit or even at home. The Feliway® diffuser is great for at home to continuously target a certain area of the house.

How happy is your cat? This online quiz will help you guide you to an answer:

If you have any questions about your cat's behaviour, please book in to have a chat with one of our veterinarians.

Kate's Mission

Recently Dr. Kate return from a very important oversease trip.

Together with other veterinary staff, she donated her skills and expertise in the Cook Islands to treat pets over there for a number of weeks. We must admit, we are extremely proud of all the veterinary staff that work in a volunteer setting for animals here in Australia and oversease.

Thank you Dr. Kate for sharing your incredible mission with us!

Coco & Bobby

These two adorable Ragdoll fluff balls came in to see us for their annual vaccinations not too long ago, and we just couldn't resist a cuddle. Bobby wasn't too thrilled to have his photo taken, but he certainly looks incredibly handsome. Can you guess who is hiding behind him? 😉

Sorry guys for forcing you to entertain our photo session, we just love a kitty cuddle.

Taz

We are please to introduce you to Nurse Danielle's boy Taz.

He is an Alexandrine parakeet and he is about 8 years old. His favourite food are almonds, and he just loves it when his human siblings share some with him. He has also learnt to blow kisses and wolf whistles, which can be a little inconvenient when the kids are trying to take naps.

You are very handsome Taz!

Liam

Liam the Pomeranian came in for a visit the other day and decided to take over reception. It seems to be that animals will assist nurse Emma whenever she is on reception, so thank you to our lovely patients for keeping her in check 😉

And thank you to Liam's Mum for keeping a close eye on him while he was sitting up there. Liam you are one very handsome boy!

Koda & Frankie

It's not too often we get the privilege of meeting pedigree Grate Danes, but two at the same time is just crazy!

Meet Koda & Frankie, two beautiful Danes that just happened to visit our clinic at the same time and ended up meeting in the waiting room. We are certain they have already grown a whole lot since we took these pictures, but how adorable are these two? Thanks for the cuddles guys!

Ella & Kate

We don't get to see rats every day, but we were lucky enough to meet these two cuties the other week.

Meet Ella and Kate, two adorable rats that came in to see Dr. Mary Ann. Lucky for us, these two girlies were quite the cuddle bugs. Thank you girls for being such adorable patients.
