We apply a desexing tattoo after the surgery is finished, whilst the patient is still under anaesthetic.

This indicates they have been desexed by a veterinarian.

๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿฑ Protect Your Cat from Toxic Plants! ๐Ÿฑ๐ŸŒฟ

Did you know some common plants in Australian homes and gardens are poisonous to cats? It's important to know which ones can be harmful to your feline friend to keep them safe and healthy.

Here are some toxic plants to avoid:

๐ŸŒธ Lily โ€“ All varieties, including Easter lilies, can cause kidney failure.

๐ŸŒฟ Sago Palm โ€“ Extremely toxic, even small amounts can be fatal.

๐Ÿƒ Dieffenbachia (Dumb Cane) โ€“ Causes oral irritation and swelling.

๐ŸŒบ Oleander โ€“ Affects the heart and can be fatal.

๐ŸŒฟ Peace Lily โ€“ Can cause severe mouth irritation and digestive issues.

Always check your plants, especially if your cat tends to nibble on greenery. If you suspect your cat has ingested a toxic plant, seek veterinary care immediately.

Letโ€™s help keep our furry friends safe and share this post to spread the word! ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’š

โค๏ธ Meet Scarlett, our surgical case of the week โค๏ธ

Scarlett presented at our clinic with being unwell, discharge from her v***a, temperature, and slightly distended abdomen.

She was an entire female and not desexed.
Scarlett was diagnosed with Pyometra with the use of ultrasound and x-rays.

We prepared for surgery, and there were some minor complications.
Scarlett made it through surgery and is now recovering at home.

Please read the information below about her condition, pyometra, and how it can be prevented.

What is Pyometra?
Pyometra is a serious, life-threatening infection of the uterus that occurs in female dogs and cats, most commonly in those who are not spayed. It typically affects older animals but can occur at any age.

๐ŸฅHow Does Pyometra Develop?๐Ÿฅ

Pyometra develops when the lining of the uterus becomes infected. This condition is often associated with hormonal changes, particularly the hormone progesterone, which can cause the uterus to become more susceptible to bacterial infections. These infections may result in the accumulation of pus inside the uterus, leading to severe illness.

โœ”๏ธPrevention:
The best way to prevent pyometra is to spay your pet. Spaying eliminates the risk of this condition altogether and helps prevent other reproductive health issues.

โš ๏ธ Summer Snake Season: Keeping Your Pets Safe โš ๏ธ

As the weather warms up, we're not the only ones enjoying the sunshine โ€” snakes are more active too! While itโ€™s important to appreciate wildlife, pet owners should be aware that this also means an increased risk for snakes encountering your dogs and cats during outdoor activities. Here's how to protect your pets and enjoy the summer safely:

๐Ÿถ Dogs & Snakes: Dogs, particularly curious breeds, may be more inclined to investigate a snake. Dogs may get bitten on the face, nose, or paws, which can cause severe swelling, pain, or worse.

๐Ÿฑ Cats & Snakes: While cats are generally more cautious, outdoor cats can still encounter snakes, especially in wooded or rural areas. Cats can be bitten on their legs or face, often resulting in swelling and infection.

๐Ÿฆธโ€โ™‚๏ธ Preventive Measures:

Keep your yard clear of debris, tall grass, and piles of leaves โ€” perfect hiding spots for snakes.

Install snake-proof fencing if you live in an area prone to venomous snakes.

Walk your dog on a leash in areas where youโ€™re unsure of potential snake habitats.

Avoid walking pets at dusk or dawn, when snakes are most active.

๐Ÿ’‰ Know the Signs of a Snake Bite: If you suspect your pet has been bitten, itโ€™s important to act quickly! Symptoms may include sudden swelling, difficulty breathing, weakness, vomiting, or lethargy. Seek emergency veterinary care immediately, your local veterinary clinic or local animal emergency centre.

Keep your pets safe this summer by being aware and prepared. ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ
