With the warmer #weather of late we have been seeing a lot of #bluetonguelizards coming in with dog attack injuries. This one had a nasty puncture through the body wall. It’s #lung was popping out through the hole every time it took a #breath. Doing some #landscaping in the #backyard today and disturbed a family of #skinks. One of them dropped its #tail before I had a chance to catch it and move it to a safe place! Tail autonomy is such as amazing adaptation. At least it will #grow back! #gardening #backyardfauna #lizard #thereptiledoctor #vetsoninstagram #dayoff

Bearded Dragon Heart Surgery

Here is a short video of the heart surgery. You can clearly see Big Eye's heart beating. The clicking sound is the ventilator we use to assist with breathing.

Here's a short "What's wrong with this snake?" video. Have a look at it and let me know what you think the problem is. A bit of history... owner came home to find snake like this in it's enclosure. Prior to this he was 100% normal, feeding and in good health. So what's your diagnosis???

Saw these interesting parasites in a faecal sample from a Bearded Dragon last week. They are what are called ciliated protozoa and while having a few is OK having 1000's like this dragon had is not! They can cause weight loss and diarrhoea. We treated him and all is back to normal. Quite mesmerising they way the go round and round and round....

A Crook Snake!

Here's a short video of a Bob, a Coastal Carpet Python we have in hospital at the moment. He is a good example of what signs to look for in a dehydrated and septic snake. Hopefully we can pull him through...
