Our classes are designed to educate new puppy owners & prevent problems from even happening. It's a horrible shame that City of Kingston is shutting down our micro business & ending our service of delivering professionally run puppy classes in Carrum!

We need more education for new puppy owners NOT less! 😕

Puppy School! Identifying how dogs are feeling and having an understanding of dog behaviour & body language can prevent tragedies like this!

If you attend a professionally operated Puppy School, an experienced & well qualified trainer will more than likely identify any behaviour in your new puppy that may require work! Fearfulness, pain, reactivity and how a pup is raised will impact behaviour. Identifying potential risks early, will go a long way to preventing in-home dog attacks like this.

We are seeing more & more fatal or near fatal attacks in homes by family dogs, yet Kingston Council is closing down the only professionally operated puppy school in the area in Carrum. We need more education in dog behaviour, not less!

Puppy Classes! We've had a big rush on places today, so if you wanted to train with us, grab one before they go. Our last Super Puppy Courses start Saturday 1 February!

Yes, it's sad that these are most likely our last classes in Carrum, but Kingston Council is ending our hall hire & doesn't share the sadness you or I feel! I've invited all new Local Councillors to watch a class or have a chat, but had no takers. All I can suggest is you write to your Local Councillor and tell them how you feel. And sign pls SIGN and SHARE our Petition -

Unfortunately I cannot do anything to change the situation and the Petition with nearly 2,500 signatures doesn't seem to matter either. Nor do the dozens of letters from clients, residents, local vets, veterinary behaviourists, educational facilities, Box Hill TAFE (I mentor the students for free), animal behaviour professionals from all over Australia & many more. Apparently none of that matters!

The value of a professional service can only be appreciated when it's needed or experienced. Too many people attend an amateur run puppy school & barely touch the surface with what really matters. I have clients coming back with 3rd and 4th pups over 25 years in operation.

Yes, it's very sad but this micro business is being closed down by Kingston Council. If you feel you can help or suggest an appropriate venue with indoor space & outdoor fenced area, please message me. ❤

Try using high value reinforcement - food - to teach your dog the value of coming back, but do it without the distractions of the off leash park! Once your dog learns to return to you, practice with minimal distractions, making sure you let them off leash again as another big reward! Gradually progress to the off leash area for success!! 😍🐾❤️

Puppy Socialisation starts NOW at 8 weeks of age!

"We are not running Hogwart's School of Magic - we cannot undo the damage caused by lack of early socialization." We agree totally!

Choosing cheap or close by isn't always the best choice! After over 25 years of providing puppy classes, I believe the best classes are held in indoor and outdoor spaces, with loads of room and equipment to enhance socialisation. Every day we get calls from people who went with cheap & are still struggling. With councils limiting what professionals can hire, this is hard to find and all good trainers should be lobbying for greater access to community space for classes. Sign our petition here -

PUPPY SOCIALIZATION - IMPORTANT MESSAGE!!!

I don't know how to say this more clearly and emphatically: Please DO NOT wait until your puppy has had all his or her vaccinations before beginning socialization. The socialization period is finite, limited, of short duration, ending at 14 weeks for the average puppy. This is a non-negotiable fact of nature and cannot be changed! 80% of the problems we deal with in adult dogs could have been avoided with timely socialization. You have a few weeks to get this right - your puppy will not wait until the holidays are over, you finish your overseas trip or your kids finish their exams. They will not wait until the weather is cooler (or hotter ) or you are less busy and they will NOT wait until all the vaccinations are done. They will continue to grow and develop emotionally, regardless of whether you are prepared or not. Those first 6 weeks when you have your puppy within that impressionable period will be gone in a flash, DO NOT waste them!

An absolutely miniscule TINY proportion of healthy, well cared for pups contract diseases and die - on the other hand, a huge proportion of dogs are euthanized or end up living severely limited lives due to serious social problems.

Yes, there are horror stories of puppies dying of parvo, but in some of those cases the pups had all their vaccinations and still contracted the disease, because there was a failure to immunize due to an inherent problem in the dog - so waiting for all the vaccinations before socialization made zero difference!

PLEASE also DO NOT wait for us to socialise your puppy for you. We also need a holiday! We worked right up until Christmas this year to accommodate new pups as far as possible, but for our own mental health we also need just a couple of weeks off. There are PLENTY of excellent articles on socialization DO's and DON'T 's. Start googling! Get proactive! Please note that what has been done cannot be undone! We are not running Hogwart's School of Magic - we cannot undo the damage caused by lack of early socialization, we can only help you manage it and try to do some form of damage control - there will always be scars. So, choose wisely how to spend those first few weeks with your puppy!
