Wildlife Victoria rescue grant
Thx to https://www.facebook.com/wildlifevictoria/ for the recent rescuers grant...got my new flashing lights fitted by auto electrician yesterday...a few more internal lights and other items coming in the next few weeks
The difference between 70km/hr and 60km/hr...slow down a little in areas where wildlife are...you might just save a life...this Wallaby was lucky I was the car in front on this occasion šš
The difference 10km/h makes...this Wallaby was lucky I was the front car...slowing down won't hurt...and might just be enough to save an animal...šš
Please don't hurt me
Been a busy period last month, juggling work and rescues can be interesting at the best of times, with covid restrictions in place you would think there would be less cases to deal with but sadly I finished the month close to 50...
Being a rescuer we are the first contact with injured wildlife, we need to assess and make decisions the we se are best for the animal, sadly we play God far too often but occasionally we get the occasional save, usually a viable joey whose mother needed to be humanly put to sleep...we make these decisions based on our experience...
Having passed the 800 plus mark in roo rescues recently there's not a lot I haven't seen, some things cannot be unseen as much as we would wish we could...
Hopefully in the coming weeks as we emerge from lockdown many of the public have a new view of the world and an appreciation and respect of our wildlife, I guess we will soon find out...
We meet some amazing and caring people during our rescues, sadly these people are the ones who see others who have been involved in the animal being injured whether it is and accident or deliberate and do nothing...
Hopefully this month, although it has started on the wrong side of the tally sheet is not so crazy...
Please keep an eye out for our wildlife, we share this land with them, in many cases are the reason they are displaced...they can't help themselves....
Thanks for reading
UPDATE: after a few issues with cameras i finally got some video of the poor fella...he is starting to look better and is being seen out and about a lot less during the day...Bought 3 new cameras and have set up 2 on the burrow entrances...hopefully more footage...also seems to be a second wombat sharing this burrow
A few days ago I went to a Wombat Mange case for WLV...I wasn't 100% sure which burrow was his as I hadn't had eyes on him yet...
Got a message today from Brooke with a photo her father took of the wombat entering his burrow...and luckily my hunch was right and had treatment on the right one...I have set up Trail Cameras on the burrow so will give progress as he is treated over the next 12 weeks...
