Our old stomping ground in Brighton, Vic 💖 A lovely shot with one of our White Shepherd pups Jake (now living in Canada) 12 years ago. We used to be regulars here 29 years ago and used to meet our pet photography clients there too! It’s a popular hang out for many dog owners, but we no longer go here as it’s renowned for dog fights. We have found the Mornington Peninsula beaches so much safer, where owners seem to have their dogs under much better control. Where do you love spending time with your dog out and about?

Neigepearl Odin x Neigepearl Mishka are expecting soon!

Mishka is owned by our long time friends, the Thompson family. She is the last breeding female of our bloodline.

Granddaughter of Royal Damien of Teen’s Desire (USA) and Neigepearl Tokra Fury. Great granddaughter of Jyetara Alleged Criminal (Aus) & Finn Vom Sutumer Grund (GMY). Magnificent titled bloodlines behind her.

Odin is out of our Meira (Neigepearl Indy’s Legacy) & Majestic’s Agar (Italy).

We have quite a few people waiting for this litter, most of which have had dogs from us in the past. It’s a beautiful tradition to keep these special lines going. 💖

Last month, Shane & Katie lost dear old boy Apex (Bryan x Sheena). What a wonderful life he had! He was 14 last November 🌈 It breaks my heart when our special bloodlines cross over.

This is true, especially with Oakley (Ajax x Gypsy 2013 litter).

Phil and Caroline have documented Oakey’s amazing life and adventures with his family and friends, honouring their darling boy.

Oakley made such a positive impact on so many people’s lives and is being mourned far and wide.

Oakley was such a gentle and beautiful soul and we know Phil and Caroline provided him with the most blessed family life. For that, we are forever grateful. He really was an ambassador for the breed.

There’s nothing more rewarding as a breeder than having your pups be a soul dog. A once-in-a-lifetime dog who bonds with your heart and soul like nothing else. That’s why we feel our dogs are so special.

Many may wonder, “How can such a special boy be gone at only 10 and a half?”
With many large breeds, Shepherds are not immune to bloat (Gastric Dilation Volvulus - GDV). They can go downhill very quickly.

Thankfully, in the past few years, vets now offer ‘preventative’ surgery for GDV, usually when young dogs are desexed, which is called a gastropexy.

I don’t often advocate for ‘preventative’ surgery as I’ve seen a lot of vets offer completely unnecessary procedures for large dogs (such as hip replacements for large breeds), especially when there are no signs of any issues at all.

Though, even knowing one of our pups has been taken from bloat, I think that if a gastropexy can save one life - it’s worthwhile. We will now be considering it in future.

(Having a gastropexy doesn’t necessarily mean dogs won’t get bloat, but chances are low and it is said that surgical recovery is much easier than not having it.)

🎉🥳 Happy 11th Birthday to our wonderful matriarch, guard dog of our yard, can-do-no-wrong, super star foundation 💫 Meira (Neigepearl Vital Obsession out of Ajax x Sheena) and her gorgeous littermates!

A great granddaughter of our White Shepherd foundation male, Karo, she makes us proud every single day with her sweet bombproof nature, everlasting puppy antics & always willing to please!

From pushing in when someone else is being groomed, to being the most doting dog mumma & surrogate mumma to 2 newborn puppies (Lyka & Sunny), she’s an absolute legend of a dog & melts the hearts of all who meet her! 🎁

Lenny & Anne sadly had to let Bolt cross over rainbow bridge at nearly 14 years of age.

Beautiful Bolt was from Zack x Sheba litter & had the most adorable nature ever.

We know he will be sorely missed by his family & our thoughts and love are with them at this difficult time.

We love our golden oldies, so when such a beloved dog passes, our hearts are heavy too 💔

Big hugs Lenny & Anne. You guys are like our family and we share in your heartache 😢🌈

🐾 Why Dogs Don’t Live as Long as Humans 🐾

Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten year old Irish wolfhound, named Belker.

The dog’s owners, Ron, his wife Lisa and their little boy Shane were all very attached to Belker and they were hoping for a miracle. I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer.

I told the family there were no miracles left for Belker and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog. Ron and Lisa told me that they thought it would be good for the four year old Shane to observe the procedure.

They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience.

I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker’s family surrounded him.

Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on.

Within a few moments, Belker slipped away peacefully. The little boy seemed to accept Belker’s transition without any difficulty or confusion.

We sat together for a while after Belker’s death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives.

Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, “I know why.”

Startled, we all turned to him.

What came out of his mouth next stunned me.

I never had heard a more comforting explanation.

He said, “People are born so that they learn how to live a good life – like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?”

The four year old continued, “Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don’t have to stay as long.”
