We are often asked about the availability of puppies or older dogs via Messenger. Whilst we are still very happy to help here, I thought I would post a link to a website called Dogzonline where most of the Dogs Australia Registered breeders will advertise if something is available, for those who prefer not to ask us here.

I do know there are some puppies currently available and younger dogs/adults coming available soon, so touch base here in Messenger or check out Dogzonline. Its also a good resource to identify breeders in your area if you just want a chat. Not all breeders are listed to feel free to ask via messenger if you need more info.

UPDATE from Sharon Crawford

Just touching base to let you know how the girls are doing.

As you can see Trinity has now claimed the curve on my back as her absolutely fave sleeping spot 😂 and Widget loves giving me kisses.

We saw the vet this week and the girls are going to need some serious dental work. They both have some teeth in the back with infection and huge tartare build up. So we will have that done in a few weeks once I save up for it.

Otherwise they are both in mostly good health, couple of fatty cysts but that’s all.

We got the information that Trinity was only desexed last year with a likely finding of cancer - she currently has 3 mammary lumps. Widget also has the same and some blood markers for infection which could just be her teeth. So that’s the current state of their health. They both struggle a bit with poor eyesight, diminishing hearing and a bit of senility but coping really well.

Socially they have claimed the home and taught us they love BBQ chicken, sardines and really any human food we choose to share. We’ve been walking more when it’s not raining and they seem to enjoy being out and about but not too keen on other dogs that might walk near them.

The three dogs seem to all be getting along very well. Our cat is adapting to them being here - by refusing to be anywhere near them or hiding in the wardrobe.

UPDATE FROM Sharon Crawford

Update one week on:
The girls are settling in very well!

We weren’t sure their walking endurance so started with small walks and increasing a bit each day. Now they comfortably do our 3km circuit every second day and run around like crazy puppies once home, while Luciano the 9 yo Doberman sprawls out exhausted on the floor 😂

A friend of mine sewed me a pillow over 15 years ago and it’s my couch pillow. My children attempt to steal it regularly when on the couch. I turn around tonight after working on my laptop and it appears Widget isn’t just happy stealing Luciano’s day indoor bed, she’s now claiming my tiger pillow!

They are becoming more confident with all my family. My daughters (20 and 18 yo) love to play with them at the end of the day. They seem to love to be silly around 4.30-6.30pm and Trinny has shown us her howl this week which is hilarious! They won’t retrieve a ball but love to chase Luciano when he does. They don’t seem to be keen on any of our variety of toys but love our 20+ soft blankets around the house for snuggling.

Thankfully there hasn’t been any conflict between the girls and my Luciano. The cat is not a fan yet though but he’s a grumpy old man at 11. Both the cat and my dog have signs of mild dementia - so we joke now it’s just a house of demented oldies ❤️

We are off to the vet mid next week to get them a full checkup and make sure we are doing all we can to keep them in good health. They had a bath on the weekend and we are stealth nail clipping one or two nails a day when the girls are asleep.

Thank you to everyone who has reached out from the community to share info on the girls. It’s much much appreciated. Sadly my father died suddenly last week after a brief battle with lung cancer, so the dogs and I are supporting each other through the loss of our beloved parent. RIP Samantha and Steve 💔

An update from Sharon Crawford.

Just letting you know the girls are settling in well. We gave them both a bath yesterday which they tolerated well. Honestly I think they loved the attention and cuddles when drying them off.

As they adapt they are both becoming much more affectionate and confident. I

My Luciano is adapting to the girls well too - despite some side eyes when they get “too much” attention or share of the treats 😂 He has learnt to simply go lie on my bed to escape them if he’s not feeling social - but most of the time he lays on the big couch and girls on the little one. Took him for a big run yesterday so he doesn’t feel he needs to compete.

They are both eating, sleeping and toileting well. We have sessions of play and then lots of napping - honestly I want their lives!

Hi everyone - thank you for your kind interest in the welfare of Trinity and Widget.

I am proudly owned by my 9 year old Doberman rescue Luciano and have been an active member of the Doberman community for the past 20 + years. I was introduced to the wonderful breed of Manchester Terriers around 2005 and have considered adding one to our family for a few years.

We lost Luciano’s last best friend Honey over a year ago and it had been challenging considering his ageing to add another dog to our family. However thanks to the recommendation of h**p oil to his diet in the past few months, he has become his old self - energetic, cheeky and keen to be social. I told friends I would wait and see what the Universe sends me.

So it seemed fated when I saw the post of the girls looking for somewhere to live out the rest of their lives - especially as Luciano and Trinity look identical (apart from the size difference ). Mindful of the trauma the girls are processing with the sudden loss of Sam, we gently went (my 18 yo daughter and I) for a visit and then yesterday took Luciano with us.

Trinity was a little standoffish with myself and Luciano, but happily engaged with my daughter. Widget (usually the shy one) was super intrigued by the boy smell of Luciano and wouldn’t leave him alone. Luciano of course marked their yard so they can smell him today as well as the blanket of his we left for them.

So the plan is to collect the girls tomorrow and bring them to our home. We have the house separated by baby gates and barriers so the dogs can become used to each other without direct interaction over the next few days/weeks as the girls settle in. Thankfully we have some items rich with Sam’s scent coming with us to try and help the girls cope. Her family have been amazingly kind to us in their moment of grief.

Fortunately Luciano is a submissive desexed man and very used to sharing his space with other dogs. We are mindful the girls will take time to adapt to a very new space while processing their grief.

I have no doubt I will be posting online in the page often to seek to best understand and help the girls from the wealth of knowledge here. For anyone curious about my intentions - my dogs always have been my life and I am simply doing what I would pray would happen to my boy should I suddenly no longer be around to give him the love and life he deserves. I look forward to being owned by the girls and learning all I can about making their lives as enriching as I can.

Always happy to answer any questions and thank you everyone for your support of the girls.

With the sad passing of Samantha Avenell this week, we have been advised that she leaves behind two older bi***es, sisters, 13 years old, that now need to be rehomed. One is spayed and they are both in good health. They would need to stay together, and are located in Brisbane, Queensland. They would need to be collected to go to their new home as they are possibly too old to fly interstate. It’s a very sad situation for these girls, as Samantha's family is not in a situation to keep them.

If you, or anyone you know, may be able to take on these two girls and give them love, please contact Di Hull who has very kindly offered to help out, on 0421593509 or [email protected]. Thank you for helping, Di. Greatly appreciated.

Sad news today to hear that Samantha Avenell, of Gallifreyan Manchester Terriers , passed away yesterday. RIP Samantha. Thank you for being part of our amazing breed.

Dogs Victoria recently conducted a Virtual Dog Show to raise funds for the Ukrainian Kennel Club. I am so proud of the Manchester show community who finished up with 10 entries, the highest of the Terrier Group. Thanks to those people for digging deep for their counterparts during troubling times.

Like so many around the world I got a little too involved watching Crufts Live streaming this year, and I have to say how so very proud I am of the Manchester results. Talk about put the breed on the world stage. So let’s touch on a few of the results.
CONFORMATION: This year Best of Breed was taken out by Sarah, Ch/ Ir Ch Rattustrap Bitter N' Twisted (AI) - E. Saxton and P. Dale. While I haven’t yet seen any breed judging footage, I must say I am looking forward to it. Sarah and Estelle looked amazing in the big ring for Group judging. And they even scored a spot on the YouTube page. The main breed class results are posted in the photos.
OBREEDIENCE – Well, the Manchesters ROCKED! Got to watch them on the live stream and they did SUPER, taking out FIRST PLACE. Well done to Manchesters Reunited - Crufts Obreedience Champions 2022 - Sophie (Sophyla’s Sophie) with Ann Harrison, Sadie (Larkswing Belle Star at Rosadyva) with Brenda Harrison, Donald (Lake Sunset) with Lavinia Paxton, Teal (Magpiebank Teal) with Chris Harrison. Not forgetting the reserves, Grace (Rattustrap Citra at Carapast) with Lesley Olbinson and Briar (Ch Talanors Treat me Good at Sizlin) with Jean Walker. I hope I got those right!
FLYBALL – Well, what can one say about Onyx, (Rattustrap Tantalum) and Garry Minnikin and Rachel Minnikin. As part of the FOCUS Flyball team, Onyx just flew, literally. FOCUS made it all the way through to the finals, with the team clocking a rip-snorter of a time, 14.93 seconds, and a Crufts record (albeit a brief one). They finished with a super effort of 2nd place. Not only is the FOCUS Team very talented, but Garry is also one of the nicest, most humble people I think I know. Great effort Team FOCUS. Love your work.
There were many other Manchesters competing in various other events, so congratulations to you all, no matter how you fared. Well done for giving it a go, and you never know, next year might be your year. These results I listed are just 3 that super impressed me.
WELL DONE all, bring on 2023.

THIS IS SO IMPORTANT - There is a post on another Manchester Terrier page with the most heartbreaking story. A 6 month old Manchester puppy slipped its harness while out for a walk, ran into traffic and was hit by a car. Sadly he has passed away. Now a family is distraught, and possibly the driver and the breeder as well.

Make sure when walking your dogs, they are properly secured. Manchesters are known to slip harnesses so if you use one, make sure it is a good quality one and fitted properly. I personally dont use, or recommend, them but if your preference, combine it with a collar for added security.

Stay safe, everyone.
