I can understand this one π
Vicious Circle #2!
In this post we discuss the importance of rider alignment and straightness for the health of the horse and the fit of the saddle.
Even if the saddle is fitted perfectly with the assistance of all manner of equipment and tools, if the rider is unbalanced or crooked, they can completely alter the fit of the saddle and subsequently, the shape of the horse.
Humans are not symmetrical and we tend to have a dominant side, and without having someone on the ground (or a mirror) it's impossible to know just how unbalanced we are by feel alone.
We could feel like we're straight and centered but in reality be way off to one side, pulling the saddle with us. We may post in a diagonal motion across the saddle as opposed to forward-back, our hips could be twisting during canter without us even realizing.
We spend so much on our horses and spoil them rotten with massages, osteos, chiropractic treatments, heat lamps, magnetic blankets and pads, PEMF therapy, laser therapy - yet when we get injured we tend to just walk it off. We won't go to the ER unless we can see a bone sticking out. We haven't seen a massage therapist in years and put off receiving alternative therapies because we'd rather spend that time at the barn, with our horse.
If you're broken, crooked and unbalanced, you aren't doing your horse any favors. YOU need to be healthy and not in pain or limping around so that your horse doesn't suffer the consequences of your injuries and ailments.
We all love our horses, but try and remember to occasionally love yourself too.
