❄️ Winter Grooming ❄️
As we are coming into the cooler months, something groomers often hear is “We don’t get our dog groomed as often through winter.”
Dogs and outdoor cats actually need grooming more often during winter if you are wanting to keep them at a longer length for warmth. With a longer coat they can become knotty faster between grooms. If a pet comes in with matting, there is a chance your groomer will need to clip them closely for their comfort. They will then feel the cold more easily.
With a longer, thicker coat, it can be hard for you to check your pet for any skin problems that can arise with the cooler, dryer weather. Regular grooming means your groomer can thoroughly check your pet’s skin during their visit.
Double coated dogs also benefit from regular winter grooming to avoid the build up of undercoat that happens through the cooler months, trapping dirt, water and bacteria against the skin, causing your pet to become susceptible to skin infections the same way as matted coats can. Regular deshedding grooms also mean that your dog won’t suddenly drop all their hair as it starts to warm up again, keeping your home tidy and “tumbleweed” free!
Regular grooming doesn’t only mean cooling off your pet for summer. Grooming includes keeping them free from knots and tangles, helping them have a positive experience at the groomers each visit, keeping their skin healthy and regularly checked, as well as checking for other health issues like ear infections and teeth problems.
Keep your pet visiting their groomer regularly through the cooler months and book in for baths, hygiene trims, de-sheds and longer length haircuts!
