When meeting new people it’s always important to remember two crucial things, always prepare for the unpredictable and dogs choice.

These two elements are so important to consider when greeting new people, as we always want to set our dogs up for success ✨
Preparing for unpredictable circumstances could simply be controlling the amount of lead we give our dogs or by putting them into a neutral sit position. By saying the command free, this gives your pup the choice to proceed in the direction of the person wanting to say hello or to back away. Both options are perfectly natural and we never want to force our dogs into situations they’re not ready for or simply don’t want to do.

The “drop” or “down” command can be a little challenging to master, but miss Poppy blew us away during puppy class.

✨ Lure the treat on a slight angle, in between the front two legs. This will help encourage your puppy/dog to fold their back legs down.

😎 Not all Training has to be guided skills from human to dog.
💡Many useful and desirable behaviours can be captured by allowing your dog to simply be a dog.
❓Focus on your feedback to your dog, and ask yourself these questions;
1. What is the most common theme of my communication to my dog?
2. Can I confidently say that I praise the dog more frequently than I scold him?
3. Have I truly helped him to learn and understand what the expected behaviours are?
🤔 If these questions indicate that you are reprimanding your dog more than 20% of the times you communicate with him, an alternate approach could quite easily bring more peace to your life.
✅ Speak with a qualified and reputable trainer who can support you to implement the following skills;
1. Communication techniques to understand how your dog learns. They are not human.
2. Management strategies to prevent failure, while you teach him desirable behaviours.
3. Simple steps to teach your dog, what the expectations of those behaviours are, that you desire of him.
⌚Time is not the problem, valuable training can be achieved in as little as 3 minutes.
🎯 You need confidence that the effort you put in will pay off with the results you seek.
