Molly in today to pick out her new Italian 🇮🇹 made harness & leash …
It’s much better to have your dog wearing a well fitting harness :
-protects the throat from pulling in a collar & potentially damaging the wind pipe
-provides a more supported walk
- easy step in design to avoid harsh pulling over the head & sensitive nerves
- goes over coats, jumpers easily

DONT feed your dog
-Dental stix/Pedigree Dentastixs etc

The Dangers of Dentastix.

Dentastix are made with a combination of grains, starches, and other ingredients, including artificial colours and flavourings
While they may appear to be harmless, they can actually be incredibly dangerous for dogs. The starches and grains in Dentastix can be difficult for a dog’s stomach to digest, leading to severe digestive distress and potential blockages.
The artificial colours and flavourings in Dentastix are also concerning. Dogs have a much more sensitive sense of taste and smell than humans, and these artificial additives can be overwhelming or even toxic for them.

Credit: The next time you find yourself at the market shopping for a new super food to add to your dog’s bowl🐕, and you happen to come across Okra, buy some! Research shows the key to a healthier & long-lived dog is a diverse and strong microbiome.

The fruit of the okra plant has three main parts: the pod, the seed, and the mucilage. Each part of the okra plant contains different bioactive molecules. However, the secret to better health may lie in the “slime” and seeds of okra!

“When it’s cooked, okra may turn into goo. But it turns out that indigestible slime is a demulcent, a balm that soothes the intestinal tract and also has anti-adhesive properties.

Together, this causes bad bacteria to struggle to stick to the intestines of your dog. Okra’s fiber helps bind up toxins, preventing resorption, and okra consumption also increases levels of the detoxifying enzymes glutathione, superoxide dismutase (SOD), and catalase.” - The Forever Dog LIFE

According to a 2019 report published in the journal Phytochemical Research, Okra “possesses a number of important biological activities, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory, antibacterial, anticancer, antidiabetic, organ protective, and neuropharmacological activities.”

Okra contains polysaccharides, which can be used as a material to promote the growth of probiotics to improve intestinal health. Okra polysaccharides have the ability to modulate the gut microbiome and thus are able to inhibit inflammation (Yan et al., 2020a,b). Also, Okra is a good source of folate and studies suggest folate may have preventive effects against cancer risk.

Start with a ¼ tsp per 5 kilos of your pet’s body weight added to their diet, to help strengthen and diversify their microbiome on your journey to raising the longest lived dogs of all-time!

🦟Using flea and tick chemicals on dogs and cats is sometimes unavoidable, as is walking your dog on grass or parkways that have been chemically treated. So, during summer chemical exposure, it’s wise to provide a detoxification protocol to help your pet’s organs clear these chemical residues from their bodies. 🐾

Animals eliminate pesticide and herbicide residues via detoxification, a natural process of removing waste products and toxins from the body. 5 organs are important for detoxification; the colon, skin, lungs, kidneys, and liver. Your animal’s liver is crucial for metabolizing flea and tick pharmaceuticals.

Today on the Inside Scoop, we’re diving into essential supplements💊🌿 that support chemical detoxification.

Many of us will be spending more time outside with our dogs with the summer weather. That warmer weather also brings of course - fleas and ticks.

💊 Flea and tick products almost always contain pyrethrin or pyrethroids, which is also found in insect sprays meant for residential pest control. Most products are applied on a monthly basis, meaning a monthly dose of a neurotoxin is given to your dog.

🌱 Here are some natural alternatives for prevention:
- Homemade Essential oil sprays (or products like Wondercide or Cedarcide) repel fleas and ticks.
- Apple Cider Vinegar balances a dog’s pH levels, creating an environment that remains healthy for your dog but not sustainable for fleas. Mix six cups of cider vinegar with four cups of water, sprinkle in some sea salt, and spritz on your dog’s coat while avoiding your dog’s eyes.
- Garlic takes a few weeks to build up in your dog’s natural coat oil, so ideally begin feeding it before bug season arrives. Garlic can also be used to keep mosquitos at bay.
- Diatomaceous earth and nematodes offer natural pest control options.
- Home-made flea collars or bandanas can offer flea protection continuously without spraying or rubbing on the mixture.
- Neem oil is all-natural and non-toxic, and can be used to repel fleas, mosquitos, and ticks on contact. You can use neem oil without dilution, placing it directly on the body (behind the ears, on the bae of the tail, in the middle of the back).
- Coconut oil rubbed into your dog’s coat will not only repel fleas, but it will also result in a healthier, shinier coat and smooth scents. If added to your dog’s food, there will be an additional benefit of reducing the risk of internal parasites due to its antifungal, antibacterial, and antiviral properties

Just finished a phone consult that made me realize I probably don’t talk enough about constipated dogs. So here’s the deal.

Constipation can happen for several reasons and the most important one to investigate via your vet is a blockage. That can happen from too much bone being fed, or backing up from a load of grass or other non food items.

Other possibilities include lack of exercise, age, hypothyroidism, insufficient fiber and obsessive self-grooming (can lead to a mass of hair in the gut)

Dogs that need a stool softener are often helped by one of these additions. Start with a very small amount and work up until til you find what works.

NO!!
let’s talk about this photo. It’s cute, except it’s not. I see a dog who cannot get up without telling the child to get off. How do you think a dog is going to do that?

The 7 Golden Toddler Dog Rules:
#1: If a dog walks away from you, you DO NOT FOLLOW.
#2: Always leave room for the dog to walk away from you.
—that right there is 90+% of dog bites eliminated—
#3: We do not climb on the dog.
#4: We do not grab or pull on the dog.
#5: We do not hit or throw anything at the dog.
#6: We do not touch the dog’s food.
#7: We do not go into the dog’s kennel.

I promise these are not overly difficult concepts for littles, nor will they rob a kid of their bond with the family dog. It will deepen that bond, while keeping everyone safe.

“Oh, it looks like Moose is walking away from you. She is saying she wants a break. Let’s play with this instead!”

“It’s Moose’s dinner time! Let’s give her space to enjoy her yummies.”

“That is Moose’s room(kennel) and only she is allowed to go in there.”

“If Moose wanted a break, could she walk away from you right now? No she really couldn’t. Let’s move away from the play house. You can keep playing but now she can leave when she wants a break.”

In conclusion, ***parent your child or your dog will do it for you, and you will not like how they do it.***

Did you know your Dog can eat certain fruits 🍈 as part of their diet??

When I say I don’t know everything about dog nutrition, I’m not being humble. I learn new things all the time.

Recently I learned that dogs can have oranges 🍊 in moderation. I thought citrus wasn’t okay to feed to dogs. But when I think about it, I’ve seen people feed their pineapple to dogs to address stool eating.

Citrus is a great source of Vitamin C, and the “meat” of the fruit is safe for dogs to eat. However, some dogs don’t like the tartness of citrus fruit. I’ve never tried it, so this summer, my dogs will be trying oranges, tangerines, pineapple. 🍍 you can also use small pieces to freeze with some plain yoghurt

Of course, I’ll remove the peels and seeds first.

Does your dog like citrus? 🍊

Another good reason to feed fresh food!
“To say I’m furious right now is an understatement!! If you use Purina please please check your bags. We may have found what’s making Drago sick for the past week. We found shards of glass in his food 🤦‍♀️. Most of them are super small and hard to see but we did find some bigger pieces. My poor boy!! I feel absolutely horrible that I didn’t catch this sooner. Hopefully now that I have and he will no longer be on it we can get him better. I’ve contacted the store it came from and will contact Purina in the morning.”

Hi as a Schnauzer mum of 24yrs & a Dog Nutritionist the best way to healthy teeth 🦷 gums skin & gut is a raw fresh diet. Incl green veggies 🥬 as🥦🌿as these are packed with natural nutrients & vitamins!
Mince finely or grate to mix in food
Chewing on celery with the string left on is like flossing! Carrots 🥕 are excellent
All kibble is cooked & contains some sort of cooked animal fat ( restaurant grease traps ) very low in real meat but high in carbohydrates!
That coats the teeth with plaque!! Also could lead to pancreatitis etc
This is what I feed as a base … just add water 💦
I then add extra fresh meat, 🥩 sardines, grated veggies, 🥒 plain yoghurt, a raw egg every other day

🇦🇺 Tea drinkers🫖 live longer, so what happens if you offer your pets🐾 decaffeinated tea?

Research shows drinking tea at least three times a week is linked with a longer and healthier life. But what about dogs? Are there any studies? Shockingly, we found a bunch! The most recent showed that Green Tea🍵 acts as a therapeutic agent for obesity, liver inflammation, and fat degeneration in dogs!🐕

“With over 1,500 varieties, not including all the different herbal blends, it’s a comforting and pleasant drink with healing effects. In the blue zones, where it’s consumed regularly, it’s thought to be healthier than water. Green tea provides strong immune support for fighting diseases and prolonging a quality life. Tea leaves contain powerful antioxidants called polyphenols that help to prevent cancer, heart disease, osteoporosis, and other chronic problems. The specific polyphenols in tea are called catechins or EGCG, which are more powerful than the polyphenols contained anywhere else in nature.” - bluezones

Tomorrow, Saturday May 25th, Dr. Karen Becker & I will host a “5mins Saturday Science” Facebook Live to go over what you need to know about adding this longevity fluid to your pet’s meals and much more!

Labelled the Elxir of Life🥛, Kefir arguably has the most probiotics🦠 of any naturally fermented food with up to 61 different strains of microbes!

In two recent veterinary studies, scientists found that dogs and cats fed Kefir had healthier looking gut biomes, concluding Kefir may be used as a probiotic food supplement to improve a pet’s quality of life!

Whether your dog has just finished a round of antibiotics💊 ,or you’re looking to help combat diseases like allergies, digestive problems, obesity, diabetes, or liver disease, the consumption of fermented foods with probiotic properties, such as kefir, stands out due to its gut microbiota-modulating capacity and can be useful in the management of diseases like these.

This magical liquid is used all throughout our new book The Forever Dog LIFE which gives you a bunch of creative & delicious new ideas to help strengthen you pet’s microbiome!

WANT TO HELP YOUR DOG LIVE LONGER? ADD BROCCOLI TO THEIR DIET!🥦
Studies show that sulforaphane - found in high levels in broccoli - has potent anti-cancer effects.🦠 So if you’re proactively doing all you can to prevent cancer, adding sulforaphane is a smart move. In addition, sulforaphane can decrease inflammation, prevent type 2 diabetes, and detoxify heavy metals, mycotoxins, and Maillard reaction products (MRPs). These MRPs are often found in ultra-processed pet food, so you can substantially improve a bowl of kibble by adding broccoli.🥦
Even poach & mashed yoh can stir through raw meals or even kibble

Dogs shouldn’t constantly smell bad or excessively scratch and chew themselves. 🐕💢 These symptoms often stem from yeast overgrowth, a sign that your pet’s immune system is off with probable gut health issues. 🦠🚩

❌ Don’t Offer Your Pet These “Treats” ❌ NEVER

Rawhide chews come with a whole lot of trouble. 👎 They are high in calories and frequently appear on lists of contaminated recalls. Additionally, they contain high levels of hydroxyproline, which can be problematic for dogs prone to bladder stones. And if you knew the grisly process used to source and manufacture them, you’d never buy them again (much less feed them to those you love). 🤢

Check out today’s free article, linked in the comments, to learn more about why you should avoid giving your pet rawhide chews. https://bit.ly/3WB8gKF

USE CAUTION WHEN CHOOSING A FLEA & TICK PREVENTIVE FOR YOUR PET!⚠️

Popular flea, tick and Heartworm products have a history of being associated with reactions in some dogs and cats including seizures, behavioral issues, muscular/balance issues, and even death.😿

One class of these pesticides Isoxazoline (found in products like Nexgard, Bravecto and others) is so powerfully potent that it starts killing within two hours after administration!🤯 In fact, it kills 98.7% of fleas within 24 hours! Because of this, Isoxazoline drugs now carry a warning on their labels in both the U.S. and Canada.Even the FDA-U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued a warning statement for veterinarians and pet parents.

If you need to use a chemical preventive, or if you are looking for safer alternatives, you’ll want to download our FREE FLEA, TICK & HEARTWORM GUIDE in the Learning Lab where we give you natural repellant recipes along with supplement protocols to help support your pet if you have to give these pesticides.🙌🌿💊
