Building Connections in Gippsland!
On Thursday, 3rd July, our team visited Mid Valley Shopping Centre in Morwell to meet with the local community. We had a lot of interested volunteers approach us. Thanks to Yao Wang from the Volunteers VIC Team and Care Managers Karla Krueger and Sharee Kalonihea for representing us so warmly!

In celebration of National Volunteer Week and the incredible impact volunteers have across the country, we’re proud to share a story from one of our dedicated volunteer visitors, Sienna.
Sienna is a university student who generously offers her time volunteering through our MiCare Visiting Program. Her commitment to building connections and offering companionship has made a real difference in the life of her client Kamila — and in her own.

“I couldn’t be happier volunteering with MiCare,” Sienna shares. “If anyone is considering volunteering with MiCare, I’d say it's a lovely investment of your time that can get you connected to people from all walks of life. I’m extremely grateful I’m able to participate in this program, and often find that when I tell people about it I’m filled with pride."

Sienna’s story is just one example of how volunteers like her bring warmth, connection, and joy into the lives of others.

Yesterday, our elders at Overbeek Lodge embarked on a delightful journey through the life and legacy of Dame Nellie Melba at the Yarra Range Regional Museum. Her remarkable story captivated them, from her humble beginnings to her rise as an acclaimed opera singer.
Following their visit, we enjoyed a delightful afternoon tea at the charming Gracious Grace Cafe. The cafe's warm ambience and delectable treats provided the perfect conclusion to their day of cultural exploration.

The Carrum Downs Residents and Social Support Group had a fantastic time celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with a lively Irish dancing performance! The children brought so much joy, and the atmosphere was electric with everyone clapping along to the music. A big thank you to these talented dancers for not only putting on a great show but also for taking the time to chat with everyone afterwards, making the day even more special.

Our lovely residents at Prins Willem Alexander Village, Birkdale showcased their amazing skills at this morning’s Talent Show! From singing and dancing to poetry recitals, harmonica playing, modeling, and even a captivating wood carving story—there was no shortage of creativity and joy. 🎭💃🎶

MiCare was invited to participate in the Gamechanger Career and Support Expo 2025, hosted by the Greater Dandenong Council on Wednesday, 5 March 2025. The expo provided an excellent opportunity to engage with the local community around job readiness, pathways to employment and applying for current vacancies within our residential aged care and in-home support programs. The event also provided a great opportunity to strengthen networks with local registered training organisations and providers that support jobseekers with pathways to employment.

There was a big turnout, and our team was kept busy engaging with crowds of attendees, providing expert guidance to assist them in making informed decisions about pursuing employment with MiCare. A number of prospective jobseekers were progressed to formal interviews and to employment with our organisation.
