Did you know that Obesity is the most common disease seen in our pets?

Excess fat in our furry friends can pose serious health risks as our pet’s metabolism works significantly differently to ours.

As tempting as it is to treat your best friend every time they give you “puppy-dog-eyes”, it is better for their long-term health and well-being to limit their food-related luxuries.

To learn more about the health concerns around obesity, visit our website;

Pet obesity is on the rise, and it can lead to serious health issues in your furry friend. Read on to learn about the causes, effects, and prevention of pet obesity.

Hot and humid weather can make dogs more prone to developing hotspots!

Pyohex Medicated Shampoo is an aid in the treatment of superficial dermatitis associated with infections by Staphylococcus pseudintermedius in dogs🐶

REASONS FOR BACTERIAL SKIN INFECTIONS:
The majority of skin infection cases in dogs are due to underlying conditions which allow the low numbers of normal bacterial residents to overgrow and cause disease.

UNDERLYING CAUSES FOR BACTERIAL INFECTIONS:
🌼Allergies: pollen, grass, food, fleas
⚖️Hormonal problems (including Cushing’s disease and hypothyroidism)
🔬Parasitic infestations

In an active infection we recommend bathing twice a week with Pyohex Medicated Shampoo and once every 1-2 weeks for maintenance or as directed by your veterinarian. Pyohex Medicated Conditioner should be used after bathing to prolong the antibacterial action and moisturise the skin and coat.

Have you ever noticed your cat looking a little ‘extra fluffy’ in their belly region? Have you noticed their belly swaying from side to side when they run, and think they need to go on a diet?

Of course, this 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐛𝐞 a sign of your pet being overweight, but what it could also be is something called a Primordial Pouch!
Primordial Pouches are the loose skin you find on a cat’s stomach, and may give the illusion your pet has gained a few kilos. However it is a normal part of our feline friends’ anatomy, and serves multiple purposes.
🐾 Offers protection in the case of a fight with other animals, as it offers a thicker barrier to protect their organs
🐾 Increases their flexibility, as the excess skin allows them to stretch and leap further
🐾 Space for food storage, which is helpful for wild cats who may only eat one large meal a day rather than our pampered pet cats.

Be careful, do not confuse your cats Primordial Pouch with signs of obesity. See our previous post for a ‘Body Score Chart’ to ensure your pet’s pouch is within normal measurements, and if you’re unsure, book a consult today and we can assist you!
