When using indoor fires or heaters, remember these pet safety tips:

🔥 Supervise Open Flames: Pets are curious! Keep an eye on them around candles, fireplaces, or any open flames to prevent accidents.

🔥 Secure Heating Sources: Make sure heaters and radiators are stable and out of reach to prevent burns or tipping over.

🔥 Screen Fireplaces: Use a sturdy screen to block pets from getting too close to the fireplace. This protects them from sparks and hot surfaces.

🔥 Check for Cosy Hideouts: Cats especially love warm spots, so check dryers, heaters, and other warm spots before using them.

🔥 Maintain Ventilation: Ensure proper ventilation when using heaters to avoid carbon monoxide buildup, which is harmful to pets and humans alike.

Let’s keep our pets warm and safe this winter! 🐶🐱❤️

The Lost Dogs Home rehome thousands of homeless and abandoned dogs and cats each year. Desexing pets not only prevents unwanted litters but is required by Frankston City Council for all dogs and cats over the age of 3 months.

There are many benefits to desexing including:
💫 Dramatically reduces the incidence of mammary cancer in female dogs, and prostate cancer in males.
💫 Reduces the number of unwanted litters of puppies and kittens.
💫 Can improve behaviour as pets are less likely to develop aggressive tendencies toward people and other animals, mark their territory, or stray.

If you need more information on desexing, please phone our clinic to chat with our friendly team.

🩺 Ultrasound time!

Ultrasonography allows us to identify gastrointestinal obstructions, find abdominal cancers, early pregnancy diagnoses and much more. In many situations having access to an ultrasound allows us to find the cause of problems that would otherwise require specialist referral.✨

❄️ Winter can be tough on pets, especially older ones. If your pet is finding it harder to get out of bed or showing signs of discomfort or stiffness this Winter, we’re here to help.

Look out for these signs:
- Reluctance to jump into the car, up onto furniture or climb stairs.
- Lowering down slowly to lie down then falling in a heap.
- Slow to get up and walk.
- Slowing down or refusing to continue on long walks.
- Crying or whining during movement.

Mobility issues can be due to aging, injuries, genetics or an underlying medical condition. We can assist with identifying the cause and work with you to create a proactive care plan that will enhance their quality of life. 🐶🐱

❄️ Brrrr! Winter is coming and even though your furry friends may have a ‘built-in coat’ it’s still a good idea to be mindful of how you can keep them as warm and comfortable as possible.

Keep your pets warm with our top 5 winter tips:
🐾🧤 Bring them inside if possible, on chilly days/nights to protect them from the elements.
🐾🧤 For outdoor pets, provide insulated shelter with soft bedding.
🐾🧤 Invest in winter clothing like coats or jumpers, especially for older or short-haired pets.
🐾🧤 Adjust walk times to warmer parts of the day or shorten walks to limit cold exposure.
🐾🧤 Skip the shave! Regular brushing prevents matting without compromising warmth.

⭐ Meet Prince Louie ⭐

Prince Louie is an extraordinarily handsome Great Dane 🦖
He came to visit us recently for a general health check and parasite prevention update. He was a very well mannered young boy and our staff immediately fell in love with him 🥰
At only 1 year old, Prince Louie already weighs an incredible 60kg!
We are very pleased to report that Prince Louie was a marvellous patient and passed his examinations with Dr Olivia with flying colours 🎉

Caring for a senior pet marks a significant stage in every pet parent’s journey. As our furry companions grow older, they change, and their needs evolve too.

🥣 Food & Water: Monitor their eating and drinking and mention any changes to eating habits or weight to our vets as there could be an underlying issue.
🐕 Exercise: Give them regular, gentle exercise and go at your pet’s pace.
😴 Sleeping: Aging cats tend to sleep more. Provide cosy bedding in warm, in a quiet draft-free spot and monitor any changes in sleeping patterns.
🩺 Regular Check-ups: Health exams, including dental checks, are particularly important for senior pets as they are more prone to illness and ailments (every six months is ideal).

If you have any concerns about your senior dog, please book your pet in for an appointment. Our vets can provide advice and treatments to help your dog enjoy their twilight years with comfort and joy. 🐾
