🦷Yesterday Daniel had his annual dental scale and polish under an anaesthetic.

Why is so important for your pet to have this procedure done under an anaesthetic?
Over 60% of our pets teeth are hidden underneath the gum line, meaning disease and pain can often go unnoticed. On probing the tooth and taking dental x-rays, it was found that Daniel had a heavily diseased tooth despite appearing normally externally on his health check before his anaesthesia. Luckily it has been removed and he is loving his soft food diet for the next week while his gum heals over the extraction site!

What are some signs of dental disease in our pets?
Bad Breath
Excessive Drooling
Discomfort when eating/not eating
Changes in Behaviour/Pawing at face
Swelling under the eye

If you think your Pet is showing any of these signs or you want your pet checked, please call the clinic.

❓️Do you think your dog may be showing signs of osteoarthritis?
🐕 Are they limping?
🐶 Not jumping as much anymore or hesitant to try?
🐩 Are they just not their bright and happy selves anymore?
Here is a great link to read from one of the companies we use for medications that help towards the care for animals with osteoarthritis:

Below is Zena, a 5yr old Rottweiler, who had X-Rays with us and it showed that she had osteoarthritis in her hips. This gorgeous girl was so happy to lay on the floor while Dr Keely checked her over before we admitted her for her procedure.

If you think your Pet is showing any signs of onset osteoarthritis, please make an appointment with one of our friendly vets so they can guide you on how to care for and treat your pet.

🔥What to do with your pets in Fire Danger Periods?
The link below from the CFA is a really good read on how to prepare your pets in case of emergency.
Please read and ALWAYS have your fire evacuation plan ready to go go go. And if in doubt, ALWAYS leave early.

Remember today being an extreme fire rating, to keep our pets safe and cool as heat stroke can happen to any animal big or small.
If you are worried about your pet on hot days, please see our last post or contact the clinic for help.

When preparing your bushfire survival plan, you also need to plan and prepare for the safety of your pets.

☀️HIGH TEMPERATURE WARNING☀️

Please make sure you're keeping your pets cool today.

Here's some tips to help:

Provide Fresh Water: Make sure pets have access to plenty of fresh water throughout the day.

Shade and Cool Areas: Ensure pets have access to shaded areas, either inside with air conditioning or outside in the shade.

Avoid Hot Pavement: Walk pets in the early morning or evening when it's cooler, and avoid hot pavement that can burn their paws.

Cool Bedding: Consider cooling mats or placing wet towels in cool areas where pets can lie down.

Stay safe and watch for signs of overheating, like excessive panting, drooling, or lethargy. If you're concerned please contact your local vet clinic.

🌼🌷Spring has finally sprung, which means it’s peak paralysis tick season in Australia.

With Spring’s arrival, there's a spike in flea and paralysis tick activity as pet owners embark on more outdoor adventures and travel, increasing their pets' exposure to these nasty critters. That’s why it’s crucial to stay ahead with preventive measures.
There is now a year long flea and tick prevention which only requires a single dose once a year. Call the clinic on 9754 2316 to find out more.
