I’m sure-paw excited that the voiceover for the first four episodes of Animal SOS Australia are done and dusted.

This series is so important for so many reasons. It not only highlights the amazing work of so many dedicated Veterinarians, Vet Nurses, Specialists, Zookeepers and support staff that are working tirelessly to save animals in need, it also shares some incredible medical stories that help raise awareness about the importance of looking after your pet’s health and getting the care they need when they are sick or injured.

Plus, the important conservation work being undertaken at Gumbuya World Wildlife Park.

🐶 Brittany, a 6-week-old Labrador puppy, visited us in December 2024 with a troubling issue of constant urine dribbling. The situation was so severe that she had to wear nappies! Dr. Charles K***z, our specialist surgeon examined her and suspected an ectopic ureter, a condition where the ureter enters the bladder in the wrong location, causing urine to bypass the bladder and flow directly into the urethra.

To confirm the diagnosis, we performed a CT scan with contrast, taking images at various intervals. The scan confirmed the presence of the ectopic ureter. Several treatment options were available, but the preferred approach was a cystoscopy with laser ablation to open the ectopic ureter and allow it to drain into the bladder, thus avoiding the need for invasive surgery.

Given Brittany’s young age at the time—just 6 weeks—it was decided to wait until she was a little older to perform the procedure. This also gave Labrador Rescue Australia .rescue.australia , who had rescued Brittany, the time to fundraise for her treatment.

In February 2025, Brittany returned for the procedure. The laser ablation was successfully performed via cystoscopy, with a 50% chance that Brittany might develop a defect in the function of the urethral sphincter, a complication that would only become apparent over time.

We are thrilled to report that Brittany made a full recovery, and her urinary issues have completely resolved. She has also found a loving forever home!
