With the end of the Year fast approaching, the Team at Balwyn Veterinary Surgery wishes all our wonderful clients a Happy New Year!

Things you can do to help keep your pets safe this New Year's Eve:

🎆 Keep pets indoors. Close the curtains or blinds, giving them a safe, quiet place to relax. You can also turn on the radio or tv for background noise to help distract them from the sound of the fireworks

🎆 Provide treat toys filled with their favorite treat to help keep their minds busy and distract them from the fireworks

🎆 If you have to leave your pet outside make sure the backyard is secure with nothing they could injure themselves on and make sure your pets ID tag and microchip details are up to date.

Is your dog scooting/rubbing their bum on the floor? Have you ever smelt a strong fishy odour where you pet sat on the couch? If that's a yes, your dog may have impacted anal sacs. The anal sacs are two glands located just around your pets' anus. They are scent glands which secrets a strong odourous discharge to mark their territory and to identify each other. They are usually expressed naturally via defecation. When they are impacted, they require manual expression to relieve the discomfort your pet is experiencing. If it is left for too long, the anal glands can get infected and turns into nasty abscesses. So if you have noticed the above symptoms, come down and let our vets do the dirty work!!

Nurturing kittens

Fancy some love before the bad weather hits Melbourne? Was just checking on Momma cat this afternoon and she was being a great parent nurturing her little babies!! And we have just noticed a few days ago that her babies' eyes are now opened~~Was a very exciting news for everyone at the clinic! Now they can feed with no difficulties :D

Clever Arthur

This is Arthur, Dr Josepha's cat who has recently learned to ring a bell for treats!! :D :D What tricks have you taught your pets??

Remember Gracie everyone!! She is still with us while the owners are away. She came in paralysed with her back legs due to a slip disc. And this is her 3 weeks post-op! Walking with no problems at all. She can even run too... 😅 Lovely to see she is recovering so well!!

Check out our little guy "Sunny" relaxing on on the lap of one of our nurses!! We suspect he might be training for the 2020 Olympic Games swimming team with those sweet doggy paddle skills! ☺😜 Sunny and his siblings are currently up for adoption!! If you're looking for your new best friend OR the next addition to your furry family, please give us a call on 9817 4561 to arrange a time to meet our little babies!
