Yesterday we shared Randall's story and asked you to help him find a forever home. One of the biggest cuddle-bugs at our shelter, 10 year-old Randall was living rough on the streets before arriving at The Home.
After receiving treatment for a few health conditions, he spent some time in foster enjoying every single cuddle that came his way.
We are now pleased to let you know that Randall will be enjoying the biggest and best cuddles in the arms of Athena.
"Thank you so much for him. My heart and soul is so full,'' said Athena.
We are so happy for them and wish them a wonderful life together!

*Please share to help Randall find a home
The world’s biggest cuddle-bug is right here at our North Melbourne shelter!
10 year-old Randall was living rough on the streets before arriving at The Home.
After receiving treatment for a few health conditions, he spent some time in foster recovering and enjoying every single cuddle that came his way.
We can honestly say that he is one of the most affectionate cats we have ever met!
Being a senior gent, Randall is quite mellow, and just wants to find a home with some humans down for all the lap time and snuggles. He's a super special boy, and we can't wait to see him find his new family to retire to.

Two year old Winnie was found hairless, starving and covered in open sores - yet she still had hope in her eyes.

When our Animal Ambulance was called to rescue Winnie it was a heartbreaking sight, with one of the worst cases of mange we’d ever seen.

Mange is a serious and painful skin disease, yet it’s entirely treatable and preventable. Sadly, poor Winnie had been left to suffer. It was clear that Winnie was a victim of severe neglect.

Her skin was red and inflamed, her fur was gone and her body was covered in sores, but despite everything she remained the sweetest dog who just wanted to be loved.

It took seven weeks of vet treatment and some TLC but Winnie finally began to heal. Her fur grew back and the sparkle returned to her eyes.

Winnie has now found what she deserved all along - a loving and safe forever home.

We’re seeing more and more animals just like Winnie arrive at our shelters, each in need of expert and urgent care. As the number of animals in need continues to rise, so do the costs of providing them with medical treatment, food and shelter.

Your donation can help cover these rising costs, ensuring that every animal receives the care and love they deserve.

Two weeks ago we introduced you to six year old Chunky Monkey who had been searching for his forever home for over two months and we’re thrilled to let you know he’s been adopted!

When we first met Chunky Monkey he was nervous and quite shy, but when Ben and Natalia visited him for a meet and greet he went right up to Ben and leaned in for a cuddle and a kiss. It was obvious to everyone that Chunky Monkey had found his forever family.

Ben and Natalia had been looking for a furry friend after losing their 15 year old dog, they wanted “an old soul to live the quiet life in the hills with their cats” and Chunky Monkey was the perfect fit for their new family.

Thank you to everyone who shared Chunky Monkeys story, we’re so happy for him, Ben and Natalia!

Throwback Thursday! 🥳 🐾

The Lost Dogs' Home is believed to be the first animal shelter in Australia to offer animals for adoption.

Shortly after opening in 1913, unclaimed dogs were rehomed into the community for five shillings.

Back in August we introduced you to Humphrey, and sadly he's still searching for his forever home.

Today is Humphrey's 200th day at the Home and we would love nothing more than to this to be his last day at the shelter.

Humphrey was just four months old when he was found on the streets all alone and looking for a warm embrace and bed to call his own. It took a lot of time for Humphrey to come out of his shell and know he is safe and loved.

At just eleven months old this spotty boy has become quite the superstar here and enjoys play dates with other doggos, making friends wherever he goes.

We would dearly love to find this beautiful boy a home.

If you think you can make Humphrey's dreams come true please visit our Cranbourne shelter today.

Last week we introduced you to Sultana and we’re thrilled to let you know he’s been adopted!

Jesse drove all the way from Ballarat to our Cranbourne shelter to meet Sultana after seeing his profile online. After a meet and greet Jesse then drove all the way back to Ballarat to bring in his roommates dog (Sarge) to meet Sultana, Jesse didn’t want to waste any time as he wanted to “bring Sultana home immediately”.

Sultana and Sarge were instantly best friends and it was easy to see he was meant to be part of the family. Sultana couldn’t wait to get home to keep playing with his new friend!

We’re so happy for Jesse and Sultana and we wish them the best life ever.

Two year old Beans was found on the street with a badly injured leg, she wasn’t able to straighten it and it was causing her a lot of distress. Our team decided it was best to amputate it to give her the healthiest, happiest life possible.

Beans received lots of love and attention while she was recovering and now she’s ready to find her forever home.

Beans is a smoochy girl who loves treats and loves chin scratches. She doesn’t let having 3 legs stop her from living her best life, she’s just like any other cat!

If you think Beans is the girl for you, head down to our North Melbourne shelter during opening hours today!

With the weather heating up in Melbourne we wanted to give you some tips to help keep your furry friends safe and cool this summer!

1. Make sure your pet has plenty of access to water
2. Walk your pet early in the morning or late at night to avoid the hottest parts of the day
3. Never ever leave your pet in a vehicle.

Executive Director of Veterinary Services at the Home, Dr Jessica Wilde, said last year animals with heat stroke had arrived in a critical condition as a result of being exposed to the heat.

“We want to get this message out early as prevention is always better than the cure,’’ said Dr Wilde.

‘’The good news is those beautiful animals have recovered completely but we fear fatalities will happen if pet owners do not heed the warning signs of heat danger and act now”.

Did you know our volunteers help out in all areas of the Home? From dog walking, laundry and even administration.

Marianne began volunteering with our Gifts in Wills team back in September, she spends her days putting together information packs for those who request them.

Marianne is retired and had been looking for an admin volunteer role for a while. Her son-in-law works here at the Home and when the opportunity came up, she jumped at it.

Marianne tells us she loves her time here, “I enjoy coming in and seeing all the work everyone does. It’s really nice to be able to help
“If you love animals, volunteering here is so worthwhile, I’d encourage anyone who was thinking about volunteering here to go for it.’’

Thank you to Marianne and all of our dedicated volunteers.

One year old Kash found himself in our care 119 days ago after his family was no longer able to look after him.

Kash is deaf, but he doesn’t let that stop him from living his best life, though he can't hear the world's sounds, he listens with his heart and communicates his love through his warm snuggles and wagging tail.

Kash is looking for a forever home where his new family will be patient with him, he may be able to live with another dog pending a successful meet and greet at the shelter.

119 days is too long to go without a home, so if you’re looking for a best friend for life, look no further than Kash.

2024 CHRISTMAS TOY DRIVE

It is time to officially kick off the 2024 Annual Christmas Toy Drive! With our shelters close to running out of toys and treats, we’re asking you to be Santa’s helpers!

Hundreds of lost and abandoned dogs and cats will spend Christmas at the Home this year and your gift of treats and toys will make sure they have an extra-special festive season.

When buying treats and toys for your pet this Christmas, please consider popping an extra one in your cart to give to a homeless dog or cat.

For details on the types of toys our animals would love – and the toys that can’t be accepted due to safety reasons head over to dogshome.com

Donations can be dropped off at our North Melbourne and Cranbourne shelters during opening hours. We really appreciate your kindness and generosity.
