We are still looking for a few Buckle Sponsors for our National Show, we have a cut off date of 21st July to get our Sponsors names to Buckle Supplier.

NBHA Victoria are seeking support and sponsors for our end of season awards as well as our State show. All sponsorship and donations goes directly to our winners and members. Our small but mighty club rewards numerous titles to our members ensuring we cater to riders of all ages and levels whilst also providing our future stars of the sport a goody bag for competing. We seek sponsorship for Buckles for each division Open, Teen, Youth and this year excited to offer a senior division (50+) in barrel racing at both club series champions and Victoria State Champions.

Other awards that run at both club and State level includes Western pole bending and incentives for Futurity (4-7YO), Derby (8-9yo) and Senior Horses (16+).

The Merrijig Barrel Racing club is excited that we offer awards for our members who are newcomers to the sport, Rookies in the sport chasing their first buckle as well as Horse of the Year awards.

Red Lodge, Montana PRCA Rodeo. It’s the most beautiful location & my old gelding, Fortune N Fame LOVES that pen. He has won a good check all 5yrs he ran there. It was also the last run he ever made before he had a career ending injury so Red Lodge holds a special place in my heart. Other than Red Lodge, anywhere in Montana!

I have three. Winning Phillipsburg, KS running a 16.9 on standard pattern and winning a round of the Prairie Circuit Finals in 2023. Both on Kate aka Famous Home Girl. Making the last run on Fortune at Red Lodge last season. I remember every stride of that run.

Kate is now helping make all my dreams come true and is, without a doubt, my best friend. When you spend so much time on the road with them, your horses become your family.

There are so many goals I have! I’d like to qualify for the circuit finals again and make Top 30 this year to help me get into the big winter rodeos. Ultimately it’s to qualify for the NFR.

𝓨𝓸𝓾𝓻 3 𝓱𝓸𝓽 𝓽𝓲𝓹𝓼 𝓯𝓸𝓻 𝓫𝓪𝓻𝓻𝓮𝓵 𝓻𝓪𝓬𝓮𝓼:

I’m pretty basic. I believe solid horsemanship is EVERYTHING. You can usually ride a horse around and feel what he’ll do on the pattern without ever going near a barrel. Most issues can be resolved or schooling can be done away from the pattern.

Fitness is paramount also. Very few horses are truly fit enough to perform at their best.

Lastly your mental game is a game changer. This is a sport of hundreds of a second and you cannot second guess yourself or your reactions so having confidence in yourself is key. Read all the sport psychology books you can and surround yourself with people who truly believe in you!

𝓒𝓪𝓷 𝔂𝓸𝓾 𝓽𝓮𝓵𝓵 𝓾𝓼 𝔂𝓸𝓾𝓻 𝓱𝓲𝓼𝓽𝓸𝓻𝔂 𝔀𝓲𝓽𝓱 𝓝𝓑𝓗𝓐 𝓐𝓾𝓼𝓽𝓻𝓪𝓵𝓲𝓪.

After staying in the USA for a few years in my early 20’s, I came home and could see a real need for more 4D races in Australia. It changed the industry in the US. Horses of various levels now hold true value and it provides a platform for people to get a foothold in our sport. In light of all this, myself and the Browne family started NBHA Australia. It was a little stressful being such a new concept and association starting from the ground up but also very rewarding!
We also wanted to give Australians an opportunity to travel to the US to compete and affiliating with NBHA allowed us the opportunity for Australians to compete at the NBHA World Show and other IBHF events worldwide.

𝓓𝓸 𝔂𝓸𝓾 𝓱𝓪𝓿𝓮 𝓪𝓷𝔂 𝓪𝓭𝓿𝓲𝓬𝓮 𝓯𝓸𝓻 𝓸𝓾𝓻 𝓭𝓲𝓼𝓽𝓻𝓲𝓬𝓽 𝓬𝓸𝓶𝓶𝓲𝓽𝓽𝓮𝓮𝓼 𝓸𝓷 𝓼𝓾𝓬𝓬𝓮𝓮𝓭𝓲𝓷𝓰 𝔀𝓲𝓽𝓱 𝓽𝓱𝓮𝓲𝓻 𝓬𝓵𝓾𝓫𝓼?

I wish I could offer some solid advice here however we all know it can be a thankless job and impossible to please everyone! All you can do is your very best and hold your head high. I give full credit to anyone who steps up as a committee member. I think they should all be applauded for their efforts irrespective of whether we agree with decisions or not!

We can’t thank Suzanne enough for not only taking the time to answer these questions but for being a driving force in giving so many of us opportunities to compete in barrel racing.

Evening all Vic D1 members. Are you interested in stepping up and helping our 2024 Victorian State show be bigger & better than 2023?

The NBHA Vic D1 commitee is looking for 4-5 members who can help us run our state show 🏆

We are after members who can help with sourcing sponsorship for our buckles and hopefully saddles again.

The behind the scenes work will start to commence next month to organise sponsors, buckles, trophy items, ribbons, saddles, trade stalls as well as Saturday night dinner for the club yearly presentation awards.

On the weekend of the state show we will be looking for the sub commitee to assist the general commitee with running exhibitions, time keeping, announcing and the presentations.

Well that’s a wrap as we close the club down for winter break.

Thankyou to all the wonderful helpers yesterday.

Thankyou to Joanne Dean Patti for the catering of our Barrels & Bubbles Mother’s Day lunch and those who helped out Lisa James, Narelle Seymour, Jess Andrews, Liliana Dean and family. The lunch was beautiful and it was so nice to sit down with everyone. Thankyou to Delatite Winery for the donation of the Champagne 🍾

Thankyou the the commitee for running the event Kim Cooke, Kristy McCarter and our helpers Charlie, Laura Spence, Jade Horton for timing and announcing. Thankyou to Jordan O’Donoughue and all the kids who jumped on the gate. As always Thankyou to Tim Donald for raking, timing and the use of the generator. The rain has gone and the suns coming out for what looks like a nice day barrel racing. We are at Mansfield Showgrounds for our final event before winter break.

Warm up available on the large grass oval out the back.

As appealing as the cross country course looks we ask riders please do not use any jumps or the area, as this is private property of the pony club and not apart of our grounds hire or under our insurance any riders found using it will be disqualified.

We ask riders to please do us the biggest favour and take manure home or to scoop it up and place in the manure pile as pictured. We have no way of dragging the tubs out as they are not on sleds and it will Te and Latoya having to clean up at the end of the day.

🐑 Please keep the gates closed at all times. The fence is down where the local sheep are kept locked away. The sheep shouldn’t be of bother and should stay away from us but for the safety of all animals gates closed after entering/exiting.

🛑If anyone can spare some time helping out with the open barrels timekeeping/annoucing please let us know.

⏰ Please be ready when called and difficult horses please have help and be in the marshalling area ready we really want to ensure we have time for lunch and we can get riders on the road early.

🔥 Campfires are permitted as long as they are small and cleaned up.

♻️ Please take all rubbish home with you.

💩 Please place horse manue in white cubes around the grounds.

🌧️ Rain is suppose to hold off with a top of 19degrees. Jackets/vests are permitted

For those who didn’t know the club used to hire a generator for the weekend which wasn’t cheap but at the same time we didn’t have the budget to buy one without taking away from our members prizes and we didn’t want to ask to use members generators in case anything happened to it. With the Help and a Huge Thankyou to our mum Donna and East Coast Generators the club is proud to own one which will mean more money and time left over in the future to give back to our members 🏆
