Mt Ascot Merinos & Jolly Jumbuck Poll Merino Stud are a family run business breeding merino sheep in Queensland. On-Property Ram Sale: January 2022

Mt Ascot is a family run and owned business, founded in 1956 by Reuben and Heather Brumpton and today is managed by their son Nigel and his family. Mount Ascot has always been leaders in genetics, striving for success by benchmarking against the merino industry standards. The Stud has been very successful due to the durable, "easy-care", fertile animal that returns quality yields in all seasons. J

olly Jumbuck was founded in 2006 and is owned by Felicity, Charlie and Lachie Brumpton. The stud aims to continuously breed a dual purpose, easy care and highly productive poll merino that out performs competitors and exceeds client expectations.

Thank you to everyone who came and supported our On-Property sale yesterday! We are happy to report the auction topped at $5,000 twice for both MTA Lot 1 and JJ Lot 37 with a 100% clearance.
MTA sold 54 to average $1965
JJ sold 36 to average $1487
A big thank you to NAB Roma and Coopers/Allflex for supplying beers to keep everyone hydrated in 40+ degree heat!

This year has flown by with Christmas fast approaching, which means our annual on-property ram sale will be here before we know it. Lock January 15th in!

Busy times here lately but we are making the most of fantastic yields, high lamb prices and a great lambing so far. We finished harvest last weekend with all of our hay and grain storage full and have since been continuing to truck out finished wether lambs as we get to the tail end of our mob, and have begun lamb marking. So far we have marked up to 145% which is a fantastic lambing result in this environment. Here’s some snaps from the past few weeks 🌱

We had a fantastic day yesterday at the Dubbo National Merino Sheep Show with a few wins 🏆:
JJ won Champion August shorn poll Merino Ram, City of Dubbo Group, and Reserve Champion August shorn fine/med Poll Ewe, Medium poll ewe, and fine/medium wool poll ram.
MTA won Reserve Champion August shorn fine/medium and medium wool merino ewe!

Always great to win a few ribbons at the Australian Sheep and Wool Show! Jolly Jumbuck won Reserve Grand Champion Fine/Medium wool ewe and Champion August shorn poll ewe, and Mt Ascot won Reserve Champion medium wool merino ewe!

We had a big successful week of shows last week where we exhibited at Blackall, Mitchell and Charleville shows.
The highlights were Mt Ascot winning Qld Ram & Junior Ram of the Year, Supreme Merino Exhibit and Supreme All-Purpose Merino at the State Sheep Show in Blackall.
Jolly Jumbuck won Qld Ewe & Junior Ewe of the Year and Reserve Champion Fleece of the Show.
Jackaroo Jackson Wood won Runner Up in the state finals for Junior Merino Sheep Judging and Beni Hodgson came Runner Up for the Junior Merino Fleece Judging!
We would also like to congratulate long term clients, the Glasson Family, “Greenlaw”, Yaraka on winning Grand Champion Pen of Ewes at the Isisford Sheep & Wool Show! 👏 🏆

Great start to the QLD State Sheep Show in Blackall today. Mt Ascot won Champion All-Purpose Merino overall with a ram weighing 141kg, 45mm EMD, 7.21mm fat and an EMA of 32.91.
Jolly Jumbuck won Champion All-Purpose Ewe weighing in at 105kg, 39mm EMD, 7.84mm fat and an EMA of 26.72. This ewe has a DP+ of 209.7 and MP+ of 191.13, both in the top 5% of these ASBV’s!
Fantastic to see so many of our sheep in the top end of these line ups, evidence that our breeding objectives are on the right track!

What a great start to the year with another On-Property Ram Sale record today! Jolly Jumbuck Lot 38 topped the sale at $10,000, sold to Tambua Poll Merino Stud, Cobar and averaged $2,235. Mt Ascot topped at $5,000 for Lot 1, sold to the Little family, Cunnamulla and averaged $1,786. Overall 87/90 rams averaged $1,962!

We had another fabulous day yesterday at our Northern Ram Sale selling 106/106 rams to a top of $3,800 and an average of $1,580! Thankyou to everyone that came along and supported!

Yesterday we eye muscle and fat scanned our young sale rams for our upcoming Northern Ram Sale in September and our On-Property Sale in January. At under 12 months of age the heaviest was a poll ram weighing 106kg and another poll had a EMD of 44 and FAT of 6mm. We are very pleased with the early weight gains and maturity of these rams, fantastic for paddock run sheep!

They come with 7 months of wool growth and have recently been crutched and had their lambs weaned. They will be a great asset for anyone to add to their flock!
