Laura & one of her favourite patients - Clarence!
In October last year, at the young age of 7, Clarence was very unwell, and was diagnosed with T-cell Lymphoma. This is a very aggressive, nasty form of cancer. The survival time without treatment is only 1-2 months.
Luckily, Clarenceโs family acted quickly, and he was started on a chemotherapy plan. He comes in to the clinic at Moe Vet Centre regularly for his treatment.
Contrary to common belief: chemotherapy in dogs is usually very well tolerated. People normally think of chemotherapy for humans & the associated sickness & hair-loss - we donโt use plans which cause these dramatic or ongoing symptoms for dogs & cats. Our aims are different to chemotherapy in people and are simply: to make life better so animals can live longer! Clarenceโs symptoms improved almost immediately when his treatment started, and he lives his life as a normal, active, family dog. He loves his cuddles with Laura & his chemo nurse Kylie, and doesnโt mind his treatments at all. In fact: when his owners friends come to visit they can hardly believe his diagnosis: his treatment is working so well that he looks like any other happy, Good Boy!
We are so excited to offer treatment plans like this locally: saving owners having to commute to Melbourne for these treatments.
