We welcomed Toby into care as an emergency intake last night…
He has eye ulcers and everyone was worried that he might lose his sight…

Our eye specialist friends at Melbourne EyeVet thankfully were able to see Toby today as an emergency case…
Toby was a very good boy and stayed still for Dr Allyson, Dr Chloe and Dr Casey to examine his eyes which is ace..
Toby needs several types of eye drops plus frequently oral meds..
And crate rest with a cone on his head…

Hopefully with intensive foster care nursing treatment we can avoid surgery…
We say thanks heaps to the Melbourne EyeVet Team for seeing Toby today as an urgency..

Tuna saying hey…
I arrived into Pug Rescue care with an ulcerated eye that I nearly lost and I had my 7th appointment with eye specialist Melbourne EyeVet yesterday…
After over two months of intensive foster home care including crating, cone wearing, administering eyedrops and oral meds multiple times a day…
Dr Casey (pictured) and Dr Hayley say my eye is saved and the ulcer is healed yay..
I’m so pleased as I like having two eyes to see out of so thank you to Pug Rescue and Melbourne EyeVet I say…

Tuna ###
In Pug Rescue foster care

Tuna had a superficial Indolent eye ulcer, that we noticed at her pound/shelter release, despite three weeks of topical and oral medication refused to heal so Tuna underwent a Diamond burr debridement in which a dremel-like tool to debride (remove the top layer of the cornea) of the ulcer to aid healing and Tuna didn’t need sedation as she’s the best…
A contact lens was placed onto Tuna’s eye to help protect it and she was prescribed more daily oral and topical meds…

Within a week from the ulcer being burred it decided to start melting her cornea and become infected because Tuna’s body isn’t very good at healing…
Perforation of her eye was nearing…

So multiple eye specialist appointments along with an extremely intensive regimen of topical and oral medications for the healing mission…
Because of how big Tuna’s ulcer has been since she arrived into care and her actual cornea not being viable for a corneal sliding graft (healthy cornea adjacent to the ulcer is moved into the defect to provide structural support for repair) and a Conjunctival pedicle graft (a thin piece of the conjunctiva (the pink skin that covers the white of the eye) is sown into the defect) also not being a viable option because it would leave her with little to no vision…
Intensive medical treatment, calming meds, crate and lead toileting and eating and a massive cone on Tuna’s head (Frenchies & pugs will push their cones into things in order to rub their faces/eyes or to push through out of barriers) has been needed to save Tuna’s eye…
Much work and stress but now that it’s healed we can let out a relieved sigh…
