Geelong Animal Welfare Society is a local rescue group located near CATMATE Moolap and one we are very proud to support with CATMATE litter.

A further 37 of our animals found their forever homes in the past week.

Suzie Sausage and Joey.

We believe education is key to ending animal cruelty and neglect, and today marks 22 years of our Education program engaging with people of all ages to increase understanding of welfare and build empathy for animals.

Last year, our team reached nearly 10,000 people through our range of education experiences including school holiday programs, short courses, CERT II animal care programs, and industry training.

And of course, who could forget our adorable education animals!? Our resident chickens, guinea pigs, rabbits, goats and sheep live on-site in our Burwood barn and are central to many of our programs.

Thank you to our passionate and hardworking Education team, both human and animal, for their amazing work playing host to thousands of people, creating happy memories and playing a vital role in creating a kinder world for animals. 🐾💕

Lillies - a beautiful flower but did you know how toxic they are to cats ?

As any cat owner will tell you, our feline friends are inquisitive creatures and can’t resist investigating the world around them, but accidentally ingesting the wrong bit of vegetation can have dire consequences.

Lilies are a big ‘no-no’ for feline-friendly homes and gardens. Just one lily leaf, if eaten, can kill your cat – but all parts of the plant are dangerous, including the pollen and flower.

Take care to avoid the Easter Lily (Lilium Longiflorum), the Tiger Lily (Lilium Tigrinum), the Rubrum Lily (Lilium Speciosum), the Stargazer Lily (Lilium Orientalis), the Japanese Show Lily (Lilium Lancifolium), Asiatic Lilies and species of the Day Lily (Hemerocalis). However, it is wise to be cautious with all types of lilies if you’re a cat owner.
