🌀Cyclone Alfred 🌀
We would like to encourage all of our clients to be prepared, make sensible decisions and act ahead of time.
🚨Be Prepared🚨
- Please ensure your horse is in a safe environment. An open paddock with safe fencing, away from large trees and powerlines. Remove debris.
-If your paddock is known to flood or is at risk of flooding, please act NOW and move your horse! (There are evacuation centres available for horses). Please contact us if you require details.
- If you’re choosing to stable your horse, please ensure the building structure is safe with no large trees surrounding. Please also take into consideration whether your horse is used to being stabled (especially in intense (loud) weather conditions).
- Prepare fresh water (plus extra troughs/buckets) and ensure you have an adequate feed supply that is kept high and dry. Do not introduce new hay or feed during this high risk period.
- Remove rugs and halters: They can be dangerous in flood waters or if debris becomes entangled.
- Tag your horse’s mane with an identification tag (or tape). Have identification photos and your horse’s microchip details readily accessible.
- Ensure your first aid kit is stocked. We have our ‘flood first aid kits’ available if you require. 🩺
- Once safe, please monitor your horses for any wounds, swollen/closed or weeping eyes, colic symptoms or cellulitis (swollen limbs). Ensure new, fresh water and feed is provided.
🚑 While we hope you won’t need us… we will have a vet (Dr. Charlotte) on-call 24/7 for any emergencies that may arise.
