A huge weekend for the team at EquiVet QLD!

We’ve been flat out managing our regular emergency caseload, while also proudly serving as the attending veterinary team for the Interschool Queensland Regional Championships 🏆 at QSEC (Queensland State Equestrian Centre).

Although we couldn’t be at the Adelaide Equestrian Festival in person this year, we’ve been cheering on all the incredible combinations from home—watching the best in the sport chase their dreams with absolute grit and determination! 💪🏻

A huge congratulations to all riders—both the rising stars at Interschool and those competing at the elite level. We love seeing the future of our sport shine so brightly!

The struggle is real…. Sunglasses were a friend for these tired eyes today 😅😎

I’m not sure who was more exhausted… Our children running their X-Country, or us trying to juggle family life & Vet life!

Thankful for our colleagues who kept the wheels turning & allowed us to have a couple of hours of family time! 🙏🏼

We’re ready to tackle this long weekend with as much determination as my daughter and her little pony have to take on the world! 💪🏻

As always, we are available 24/7 for any emergencies over the Easter period.

We hope all of our wonderful clients are able to spend some quality time with their families doing the things they love the most! 🐴

Working as a vet in the UK for 7 years taught me more than I could have ever imagined! I’ll be forever thankful for all the clinical experience I gained…🙏🏼🐴

Today, I’m also thankful for having all the right gear to cope with this wet weather….

-Waterproof Boots ✅
-Waterproof Overalls ✅
-A good cup of tea ✅

The only difference is when it rained in the UK, it was usually -2 degrees… ❄️ Here in Queensland, it’s pouring, yet still a lovely 25 degrees!

Rain or Sunshine… I still LOVE my weekends on call providing emergency care 🚑.

It’s been a busy 48 hours with non-stop emergencies combined with cyclone prep 😮‍💨

As always… vets and vehicles are ready to go, as soon as it is safe to do so! 🚑

Our ponies have some large trees nearby their paddocks and stables. So we currently have a ‘Pony Hotel’ in part of our office…. Fully equipped with air conditioning, CCTV surveillance and a live-in vet on site. 🫣 (Chris knew it was here or the living room 😂).

Stay safe everyone 🌀

🌀Cyclone Alfred 🌀

We would like to encourage all of our clients to be prepared, make sensible decisions and act ahead of time.

🚨Be Prepared🚨

- Please ensure your horse is in a safe environment. An open paddock with safe fencing, away from large trees and powerlines. Remove debris.

-If your paddock is known to flood or is at risk of flooding, please act NOW and move your horse! (There are evacuation centres available for horses). Please contact us if you require details.

- If you’re choosing to stable your horse, please ensure the building structure is safe with no large trees surrounding. Please also take into consideration whether your horse is used to being stabled (especially in intense (loud) weather conditions).

- Prepare fresh water (plus extra troughs/buckets) and ensure you have an adequate feed supply that is kept high and dry. Do not introduce new hay or feed during this high risk period.

- Remove rugs and halters: They can be dangerous in flood waters or if debris becomes entangled.

- Tag your horse’s mane with an identification tag (or tape). Have identification photos and your horse’s microchip details readily accessible.

- Ensure your first aid kit is stocked. We have our ‘flood first aid kits’ available if you require. 🩺

- Once safe, please monitor your horses for any wounds, swollen/closed or weeping eyes, colic symptoms or cellulitis (swollen limbs). Ensure new, fresh water and feed is provided.

🚑 While we hope you won’t need us… we will have a vet (Dr. Charlotte) on-call 24/7 for any emergencies that may arise.

* Amongst all the storm stress and preparation…. Here is calm and beautiful picture of our sweet Charlie, living his absolute best life. 🌈

What it looks like when you find a farrier who is equally excited about hoof balance and prevention of lameness as we are…. 🙌🏻 🤓 📚

We sit, we measure, we discuss, we plan…. and we also order Italian 🍝

Thank you CDS Professional Farrier Services. Love your work!

When your Vet Nurse has been trained so well in every aspect of the veterinary industry… She even knows to bring Donuts in on a Wednesday morning! 🙌🏻🍩

For those that know Chris and his pride of being a ‘gastroscope driver extraordinaire’… he handed over the reins this morning and let Georgia drive! 👏🏻
