One of the best parts of our job is when we get to see an animal fully recovered and released back into the wild. "Queenie" came to us after being found unable to fly on a roadside. After a few days of treatment and recovery she was more than ready to zoom off into the sky! In the words of our Director "Carn the Pies! 🤦♀️

Possums can be very challenging when it comes to medicating them in a clinic environment. To overcome this challenge, their medication is often placed into some yummy food and they will happily chomp it down. However, this is not always possible and personal protective equipment is often required in order to safely treat the possum while also protecting the nurse. On very rare occasions, you can get a very cooperative patient, like this cute little Brushtail Possum here, who makes medicating a breeze!

How's your day going? This little Cormorant needed to get a little something out of his system!
One of the most common cormorant species in Tasmania, the black faced cormorant is a regular sight in the Derwent estuary year round. These cormorants forage by diving to depths of up to 12 meters in pursuit of small fish.

Meet Marie, a Crescent Honeyeater. She was brought into Thylacine after being found on the side of the road with a concussion. After an assessment, some pain relief, fluids, and a little rest, Marie bounced back and was happily lapping up some nectar. We hope she will be strong enough for release very soon.
Honeyeaters are specialist nectar feeders, also known as nectarivores, that are found throughout Tasmania and mainland Australia. They typically have long bills and brush tipped tongues to lap up their liquid diet. Due to their diet being high in sugars, honeyeaters have a relatively simple digestive system which allows for the fast throughput of food. Despite their name, nectar and fruits are not the only food that honeyeaters eat. Invertebrates are an important source of protein, and is one of the main diets that parents feed to their growing chicks.
Its not just about the surgery here, its about the cuddles and the snacks too! Every feline friend gets a warm comfy bed, unlimited cuddles and a post surgery snack!
