Meet Harvey, a sweet Australian Kelpie who gave his family quite the scare! 🐶💔 He accidentally swallowed a sewing needle while playing at home. His owners rushed him into a local emergency centre as soon as they noticed something was wrong. Thankfully, Harvey remained bright and alert overnight. He was referred to us the next morning.

With X-rays confirming the needle’s location, our team carefully removed it, via a laparotomy, before it could cause serious harm. Harvey is now safe, sound, and back to his happy, tail-wagging self! 🐾🎉

Harveys owners quick action made all the difference! Accidents do happen. If you ever suspect your pet has swallowed something, prompt veterinary care can be life-saving!

Don’t wait—seek help immediately!

We see a lot of things on X-rays, but this one left us speechless. 🤯 Something was there that definitely shouldn’t be. Any guesses? Drop your theories below! 👀🩻

We will reveal all including what the "outside" of this patient looks like! . . . . Spoiler Alert HE IS BOOTIFUL!

Our team had the pleasure of looking after these two cuties recently for their desexing procedures. They are pictured here talking to ALL the ladies in reception after they had recovered from their anaesthetic.

The Mornington Peninsula Shire is conducting fox control programs in several reserves to protect local wildlife. These baiting programs will take place from until the 30th June 2025, in the following areas:

Bittern Coastal Wetland –(Warringine Park Bushland Reserve, Bittern - Hastings
Yaringa Foreshore Reserve North – Somerville
Yaringa Foreshore Reserve South and Gordon Rolfe Reserve – Somerville
Woods Bushland Reserve – Tuerong and
Rye Landfill & Resource Recovery Centre – Rye

Both dogs and cats are at risk of poisoning from ingesting the bait directly (primary poisoning) or by eating contaminated carcasses (secondary poisoning). For the safety of your pets, please avoid these areas during the baiting period.

If your pet has been in any of these locations and shows signs of illness, seek veterinary attention immediately by calling us on 5976 4244.

Early treatment is crucial for the best possible outcome.

Important Notice: HomeSafeID Microchip Registry Closure

HomeSafeID, a major national pet microchip registry, is set to close soon. This means that microchips registered with HomeSafeID will no longer be searchable, making it difficult to reunite lost pets with their owners.

We want to reassure our clients that at Beleura Vet Hospital, we DO NOT use HomeSafeID for microchipping. If your pet was microchipped with us, their details are safely recorded with Central Animal Records (CAR).

However, if you’re unsure where your pet’s microchip is registered—especially if they were adopted from a breeder or shelter—it’s important to check and update their registration if needed.

How to Check & Update Your Pet’s Microchip Details:

Visit www.petaddress.com.au to look up your pet’s microchip registration.

If your pet is registered with HomeSafeID, transfer their details to a new registry as soon as possible.

We recommend Central Animal Records (CAR). Visit www.car.com.au or call (03) 9706 3187 for assistance.

Make sure your contact details are up to date to improve the chances of reuniting with your pet if they go missing.

A small transfer fee may apply, but it’s a worthwhile investment in your pet’s safety!

With consecutive high temperatures forecast in Victoria over the next few days, please be conscious of wildlife.

Just like us, native animals are vulnerable during hot weather and may experience heat stress.

Symptoms of heat stress in wildlife can vary between species. Common symptoms include panting, fanning of wings, and abnormal behaviours such as lethargy and disorientation. It’s also common for species to take risks in search of fresh water and shade – such as arboreal (tree dwelling) species coming to ground and nocturnal species active during the daytime.

If you see animals exhibiting these behaviours, please call our 24/7 Emergency Response Service on 03 8400 7300.

😎☀ With temperatures soaring today, it's crucial to ensure your pets stay cool and comfortable. Consider providing them with a cool, air-conditioned spot indoors to relax in. If you're taking your dog for a walk, opt for the cooler times of the day to avoid overheating. Keep in mind that temperatures exceeding 25 degrees can pose a risk to pets, particularly for those who are obese, brachycephalic, or have darker fur. Heat-related risks include dehydration, heatstroke, and paw pad burns from hot pavement. keeping this in mind today, you can make the best choices to keep your furry friends safe in the heat.
