MJM Racing is based at Mornington Racecourse (MRC), only 45 minutes from Melbourne. Mornington Racing Club is part of the Melbourne Racing Club, which also has Caulfield Racecourse and William Hill Park (Sandown) under its banner. Facilities include: stables / yards / pool / walker / high speed treadmill as well as all the MRC has to offer as a Tier 1 Training Centre. MRC offers weekly jumpouts (w

Specialists utilised include: vet / dentist / farrier / spinal vets etc – all of which are leaders in their respective fields. Trainer Michael Mehegan started operating MJM Racing in 2007, with the main focus being on breaking in and the education of horses for leading trainers. However, complications following a serious leg injury sustained by Michael during track work forced the business to be put on hold for a number of years. Now fully recovered, Michael wisely chose not to return to the saddle and instead switched his focus to training. Utilising the first class facilities that it has available at hand, MJM aims to grow into a boutique outfit, training high quality horses. MJM always puts the conditioning and welfare of its stable first and will not compromise on this. Each horse is given the best opportunity to fulfil its potential. When not in training the horses are spelled at one of our regularly used spelling farms in North East Victoria, or locally, on the Mornington Peninsula. MJM strives to provide its owners with regular updates on their horses, whether they be in training, spelling or pre training. Owners are welcome to come and view their horses by appointment.

RIP to the beautiful Miss Inbetween, who sadly passed away over night.

Ruby provided us with many highlights on the track and we loved her dearly off the track.
She will always hold a special place in our hearts.

The first of our yearlings to arrive at our stables after completing their breaking in education.

Freddie (Frosted x Prussian V***n) handled his new surrounds like a little professional.

Another great job from JCS Thoroughbreds!

We are racing at Kyneton today.

Race 6 - 2.56pm - Bencouver

Brad has finally managed to draw a gate so hopefully he can make the most of it today!

The step up in distance will suit, so if Brad can mentally stay relaxed then he should be very competitive. He does have a habit of throwing races away so we will be holding our breath and crossing our fingers he doesn't misbehave and show some of the potential we know is in there.

Good luck Brad and to everyone involved!

Racing at Pakenham tonight.

Race 5 - 7.15pm - Bencouver

Another wasted opportunity from Brad last start, playing up badly pre-race and then blowing the start which saw him stuck behind a wall of slow horses for most of the race.
Despite this he only lost by a length proving yet again to be a big source of frustration for the team.

Tonight he is up against some quality opposition over 1200m. We've finally drawn a decent barrier so hopefully he can make the most of it and put himself in a good position this time.

If he can keep himself together pre-race then we will be looking for a competitive effort from the big guy.

Good luck Brad, behave yourself and run well 😀

Racing at Pakenham tonight.

Race 2 - 5.45pm - King Ben

Sully resumes tonight in what looks to be a pretty strong race.

He's draw the widest gate which is not ideal but we are hoping to see him hitting the line strongly and show to us that he's fully recovered from the nasty virus that derailed his Spring campaign.

His last trial was excellent so if he can bring that form tonight he should be very competitive.

Good luck Sully!!

Easter racing at Mornington today.

Race 1 - 1.20pm - Sanbenito
Race 5 - 3.40pm - Bencouver

Leo looks to have come on significantly since his first start, with a noticeable improvement in his gallops.
We are hoping he can bring this to the races today.

We're trying something a bit different with Brad today, sending him to the races off the back of just one trial.
He has grown since his last prep but looks to be in a really good space and happy in his big frame. We are hoping we can finally see him deliver on his potential.

Good luck to everyone involved and fingers crossed the boys can get us a double 🤞

15/03/2024

We are racing at Pakenham tonight.

Race 1 - 5.45pm - Jewel Ben

Billie makes her racing debut tonight in what looks to be a smart maiden.

Billie's had a few setbacks and challenges thrown at her along the way but in amongst those she has shown she has lots of ability.

Although we expect the 1000m dash will be too short for her we will be wanting to see her hitting the line strongly. And hopefully she will enjoy her first trip to the races to set herself up for a good career ahead.

Good luck Billie and to everyone involved!

We are racing at Pakenham tonight.

Race 5 - 7.45pm - Sanbenito

Our very handsome Leo makes his racing debut tonight and the team are hoping he has the talent to match his looks 😀

He will need to have his skates on though as this looks to be a reasonably strong maiden to kick off his career in.

From the wide barrier, we will be looking for Leo to settle back, get into a good rhythm and then hit the line strongly.

Good luck Leo and to his connections!

24/01/2024

We are racing at Sandown today.

Race 1 - 3.40pm - El Messi

It was another solid effort from Lionel, who ran on well after getting no favours during the run.

Today he is stepping up to a mile which should suit him. He is also on a big track which he will appreciate and will give him every chance at a good run.

It's a tough race but he is feeling well and showing no signs of training off so hopefully we can see a very competitive effort from him.

Good luck Lionel!!

We are racing at Cranbourne tonight.

Race 4 - 7.45pm - El Messi

It was a solid debut from Lionel behind a couple of city quality horses, with his best work being across the line.

Tonight we are hoping he will appreciate the step up to 1400m. With some racing experience behind him and a nice barrier we will be looking for a positive showing from him.

Good luck Lionel and to all connections!

Racing at Mornington today.

Race 4 - 2.30pm - El Messi

Lionel makes his racing debut today on his home track after joining our team earlier this year.

It's a tricky race with many first starters so it is hard to know what will happen. Lionel has drawn wide but it might help to be outside of everyone.

He has shown a bit in his trials so hopefully we can see that on the track.

Good luck Lionel!

07/12/2023

That's what friends are for!
Leo and Lionel helping each other to get the itch 😁

25/11/2023

A busy day at Cranbourne for us today.

Race 2 - 12.40pm - King Ben
Race 6 - 3.00pm - Russian Benefits

It was a disappointing effort from Sully last start but when he stepped off the float after the trip home, we soon knew there was a reason behind his poor performance. An elevated temperature and some nasty bites from a spider left him flat and unwell for the following week.

He now seems to be back to his usual self, so we are hoping he can deliver on what we have been expecting from him. It's a tough race but if Sully is fully recovered we believe he can be very competitive today.

Another gutsy effort from Margot at Moonee Valley saw her record her third consecutive 2nd for this prep.

She has drawn a good barrier and continues to work well at home so hopefully she can get the win today, it would be very much deserved!

Good luck to Sully and Margot and to everyone involved!

09/11/2023

Margot loves nothing more than a good roll in the sun!

03/11/2023

We are racing at The Valley tonight.

Race 5 - 7.45pm - Russian Benefits

Margot was very brave in her last start, taking control of the race only to be run down in the last few strides.

She has been runner up in her last two starts so we are hoping tonight is her time to be first past the post. Unfortunately she has drawn the outside gate which will make things tricky but if she can land in a decent spot and make the most of the light weight on her back she will be going close.

She is No. 8 jumping from Barrier 8 so if ever the stars were to align it should be tonight 😁😁

Good luck Margot and to everyone involved. Sounds like we'll be seeing a few of you trackside tonight!

31/10/2023

We are racing at Bendigo today.

Race 2 - 1.00pm - King Ben

Sully was a very exciting winner in his last start and the team are hoping he can continue to improve on that run.

Today he takes on a small but even field, with the majority of runners all being last start maiden winners. Sully should relish the step up to 1300m. He is happy and full of confidence so we will be looking for a forward showing from him.

Good luck Sully and to everyone involved!!

27/10/2023

We are racing on our home track today.

Race 7 - 5.30pm - Bencouver

Brad almost got there in his last start over 1400m, going down by the narrowest of margins.

Today he steps up to 1500m in what looks to be a fairly even race. He has drawn a bit awkwardly but if he can muster up some early speed he should be able to get himself into a decent position.

He was a bit timid with the blinkers on for the first time in his last start but hopefully he will be much more confident wearing them today and we will be looking for him to be powering home.

Good luck Brad!

20/10/2023

It's going to be a late one at Pakenham tonight for the team.

Race 7 - 9.15pm - Russian Benefits

Although never comfortable at any stage in her last run on the synthetic, Margot nearly pulled off the win over the 1000m fighting on bravely for second.

Tonight she steps out over 1200m and is back on her preferred surface. She's drawn a bit awkwardly but hopefully she can land in a reasonable spot and give herself every chance to be running home strong.

She's in good form, her work at home has been excellent and with Celine Gaudry on, hopefully Margot can make the most of the claim.

Good luck Margot and to all involved!

A few little hiccups but we finally got there!!

Like Mother. Like Son.

Sully gets the win at Cranbourne on a Friday just like his Mum did a few years ago.
Really thrilled for all connections! Super ride Stacky!

13/10/2023

We are racing at Cranbourne tonight.

Race 2 - 6.15pm - King Ben

It was a solid first up run from Sully at Moe over 1000m. We think he will relish the step up to 1200m tonight and hope he can make the most of his inside barrier and put himself in a positive position.

It's a strong maiden but if Sully brings his best he will be very competitive.

Good luck Sully!

11/10/2023

Racing at Sale today.

Race 6 - 3.55pm - Bencouver

It was a very ordinary effort from Brad last start, which we are hoping was down to him not liking the synthetic track.

On the quick back up today, he steps up to 1400m on a much better surface for him.
He's finally drawn well and with the addition of blinkers we are hoping he can put in a much better effort today.

Good luck Brad!

04/10/2023

Double trouble at Pakenham today.

Race 5 - 3.20pm - Russian Benefits
Race 6 - 3.55pm - Bencouver

Margot and Brad are synthetic racing today, both in small fields but with some good quality opposition to take on.

They are both ready and raring to go with their work on the training track being spot on. The big unknown for both is how they will race on the synthetic surface. If they can let down as they do at home then they will be very competitive today.

Good luck Margot and Brad and to all connections!!

28/09/2023

Racing at Moe today.

Race 1 - 1.30pm - King Ben

Sully kicks off his 3yo campaign today over the 1000m. Although we expect to see him at his best over 1200m + we will be looking for a sharp run from him today.

He is feeling good and has been working well so we are hoping this will be the start of a successful prep for him.

Good luck Sully and to everyone involved!!

13/09/2023

We are racing at Sandown today.

Race 7 - 3.55pm - Russian Benefits

Great to see Margot back at the races after a lengthy break.

She'll most likely find the 1000m a bit on the short side but we are hoping to see her hitting the line strongly, showing us that she will be in for a good campaign.

Good luck Margot and to all involved!

12/09/2023

We are racing at Moe today.

Race 8 - 4.00pm - Bencouver

It's been a bit of time between runs for Brad so he should be fit and firing to get at them today.

He's not had much go his way in his most recent runs so hopefully he is due for some good luck this time in.

Good luck big guy!!
