A touching moment as staff celebrated Abbey, the labradoodle's discharge from hospital after a two-week stay due to a severe infection. Here's her story.
Abbey presented to our Emergency team, referred by her GP, following a short history of bad vomiting and diarrhoea and an exploratory surgery that had not found the cause. She became extremely unwell.
Abbey was diagnosed with necrotising pancreatitis, a very severe form of the disease. She developed an abdominal infection and severe oesophagitis (heartburn), which caused her to have difficulty keeping food down. She required a second abdominal surgery to help clear up the infection and biopsies to confirm her diagnosis.
Abbey remained in hospital receiving supportive care involving fluids, pain relief, and nutrition via a feeding tube, along with intensive nursing care for a massive 13 days.
Now back home with her Dad, Phil, Abbey is improving rapidly and returning to her bouncy self.
Our entire hospital team, including Dr. Susie, a Medicine Specialist, Dr. Chris, a Surgery Specialist, and the medicine and intensive care nurses, worked around the clock to ensure Abbey's recovery. She was very patient and sweet-natured throughout her treatment. Everyone was thrilled to see her progress and to go home with her family.
We wish our community and their pets a great Cup weekend. Our doors will be open 24/7, so don't fear—we'll be here. 🦹♀️🏥🐾💪
