Daniel Nickson is a local race horse trainer and farrier on the South Coast at Moruya Race Course, Moruya. Daniel has only just taken out his trainers licence this year after moving to Moruya 2 years ago from Sydney with his wife and 3 daughters. Daniel has worked in the racing industry for over 25 years as a teenager Daniel was going to school and working in stables in Orange NSW while doing his
jockeys apprenticeship with trainer Patrick Cass. Daniel rode many winners in the central districts area before he moved to Sydney to work for his Uncle Gary Nickson at Canterbury and he then out rode his claim riding city and provincial winners over his career ,including riding winners for Number 1 trainers, including G*i Waterhouse. Daniel then became to heavy to ride so then took on a Traineeship with racing NSW as a cadet steward , which he completed. Daniel realised he missed working with the horses and so went back to be his Uncle Gary Nickson's foreman, this time located at Warwick Farm. While at Gary's Daniel continued to ride track work and represent Gary on race days as well as helping out the apprentices jockeys with there riding including Jay Ford & Tommy Berry . While still working for Gary Daniel decided he would like to learn a new trade so he worked with Accredited Farrier Micheal Kavazos to learn the trade of blacksmithing and farriery. Daniel attended tafe at Richmond over a 3 year period where he completed his certificate 3 in farriery. Daniel and his family then decided to move to Moruya where Michelle his wife grow up, Daniel was working as a farrier and for the stewards on race days. Then Daniel and Michelle decide to start training race horse themselves. Michelle has worked in the racing industry for nearly 20 years riding track work and as a stable hand for Marc and Clarry Conners ,Paul Cave and Gary Nickson. We have a small team of horses for a number of clients we are always happy to welcome new owners weather you own a horse you would like trained or would just like to be a part of racing by getting a share in one of our lease horse or need help with purchasing a race horse of your own. We have shares from 5% with are free to get into and only cost the monthly training fees and extras . A lot of people don't realise how cheap it can be to have a share in a racehorse and you get all the race day privilege's when your horse races including free entry to races and members and owners areas , plus the thrill of watching your own horse race and of course prize money if your horse runs a place. We are a family business who loves our horse who receive the best care, feed and attention.
