Fresh garlic! 🤩
Here is some information regardinging how to use it.

“Fresh garlic is a versatile ingredient that can be used in many ways. You can crush it, slice it, mince it, or even roast it whole for a different flavor profile. It's a staple in many cuisines and adds depth to a wide range of dishes, from soups and sauces to stir-fries and even roasted vegetables.
Here's a breakdown of how to use fresh garlic:
Crushing:
Place a garlic clove on a cutting board and use the flat side of a knife to crush it. This releases the garlic's flavor and is a good method for dishes where you want a subtle garlic presence, like marinades or stews.
Slicing:
Peel the garlic clove and slice it thinly. Slices can be added to sautéed vegetables, pasta sauces, or even used as a garnish.
Minced:
After peeling, mince the garlic cloves finely. Minced garlic is a great addition to many dishes, including sauces, stir-fries, and even salad dressings.
Roasting:
You can roast garlic cloves whole in the oven for a sweet and mellow flavor. Roast the garlic until it's tender and then spread it on bread or use it as a topping for other dishes.

Kids back to school, but whaddya pack in their lunch box this week? Lebanese cucumbers, that’s what. Yes, we know, they’ve been pricey – but they’ve pulled back big time. How much? How about $2.75 a kilo? Last time we checked, that was 60% cheaper than Colesworth. Cool Cucumbers!

New at Box Divvy: MSC-certified Canned Seafood

Tuna

Tuna is a good source of high-quality lean protein, essential for building and repairing tissues. Tuna contains a good level of Omega-3 healthy fatty acids which reduces inflammation, improved brain function, and a lower risk of heart disease. It contains essential vitamins and minerals like vitamin D & B12, iron, zinc, calcium, magnesium, selenium, and iodine, which are all essential for healthy bones and the immune system.

Salmon

Salmon is an excellent source of high-quality protein, essential for muscle repair and growth, and rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which promote heart health by reducing inflammation and lowering the risk of heart disease. These fatty acids also support brain function, improving cognitive health and reducing the risk of neurodegenerative diseases. Additionally, salmon is packed with vitamins such as B12, D, and B6, which are vital for energy production, bone health, and maintaining a healthy immune system. Its selenium content further supports thyroid function and protects cells from oxidative damage, contributing to overall well-being.

What makes a good stock? Bones, vegetables and …time. Put a leftover chicken carcass in a large pan of water, add roughly chopped onion, garlic, carrots and celery, season to taste, and simmer for oh, at least 5 hours and ideally 8 hours. But who has the time these days?

Which is why most people use stock cubes or prepacked liquid stock.
There are just a few issues with supermarket stock:
Have you ever checked out the ingredient list on a pack of stock cubes? Take Massell Chicken Stock, one of the most popular brands – it ain’t pretty:
Sea Salt. So far, so good.
Rice Flour: uh?
Dextrose: a sugar derived (usually) from corn, and if you want to spot Ultra Processed Foods, dextrose is a dead give-away
Cane Sugar. Really? Isn’t it sweet enough from the dextrose?
Yeast Extract. A common flavouring – considered safe (but not an ingredient common in most domestic kitchens)
Natural Vegetable Flavours. Who knows…
Dehydrated Vegetables (Celery, Carrot, Parsley)
Potassium Chloride: this is used as a sodium (salt) substitute, but has a bitter taste
Vegetable Oil: most likely palm oil.
Turmeric Ground Madras: to give it a golden/yellow colour.
But where’s the chicken?? Clearly, even the Massel stock cube is an UPF, made from mostly industrial ingredients, best avoided if you had access to something better. Such as…
Campbell’s Real Stock? Really, it tastes like…nothing, even though it’s largely made from chicken, vegetables and water. And a ton of salt. The Guardian Taste Panel agrees: they gave Campbell’s a score of 3 out of 10, well behind Massel at 7.
Urban forager founder It’s a pity they didn’t include The Natural Stock Co from Urban Forager in the test: their stock concentrates have real flavour, are made entirely from food, and are great value.

Like so many small food businesses, Lou Courteen started selling her home-made chutneys at local farmers markets in WA. In 2017, she started making stock concentrates in a small factory in Fremantle, got listed in some national supermarkets and is eyeing export opportunities.

The 160g jars make 6.5L of stock and come in 4 flavours: beef, chicken, vegetable and mushroom. We’re introducing the product at $8.50 a jar this week (regular price: $9.50). That works out at $1.31 per litre. By comparison, the Massel cubes work out at 80c per litre, and Campbell’s Real Stock at $4.50. (A few Natural Stock Co flavours sell in Coles for $10.95).
You can find the new stock in Pantry under Meal Preparation ➡️ Soup Stock and Gravy

With autumn not that far away, stock and soup are going to be important – so this launch is timely.

I’m excited to announce Box Divvy has a new Asian product range, which will be expanding over the next three weeks with over 40-50 new Asian products – from sauces to noodles and condiments.
They are kicking it off this week with a distinctly Thai-themed range:
* Mae Ploy produces a range of Thai curry pastes: green, red, Penang and Massaman. These are authentic curry pastes that you would expect in a good Thai restaurant – and now available to the home cook. And at a fraction of the cost of a restaurant meal: the 400g tubs contain 8 serves of 50g each. (You don’t want to use more because they are spicy, so dilute with a can of coconut cream). The Box Divvy price for the 400g tub is $4.11, one of the lowest prices in Sydney. (Most shops sell these around $5 or more). That works out at 51c per meal, or 13c per serve. Just add protein or vegetables, some fresh coriander and bingo!

Other products launched this week:
* Rice noodles, including Pad Thai noodles and thin vermicelli for stir-fries, soups and salads.
* Kara Coconut Cream: unlike the H2G organic coconut cream, the Kara contains an emulsifier which prevents the cream and liquid from separating. It’s also almost a dollar cheaper.
* Maesri Sweet Chilli Sauce for well, anything really…
* Several sauces that can be used either as a dip or noodle sauce:
* Sukiyaki is perfect for hotpots or as a dip with vegetables, meat and seafood
* Spring roll sauce is great over…spring rolls. (The rice paper to make your own spring rolls is currently out-of-stock at the supplier, but we expect to have it listed by the end of this month.
* Pad Thai sauce for making the perfect …Pad Thai.
You will find the new Asian range in Marketplace under International Foods ➡️ Asian.

Over the years I have enjoyed making our own sourdough.

I have finally found a Rye recipe which we love.
I use a mix of organic whole grain rye flour with premium white bakers flour from Wholegrain Milling Co , which I purchase with our Box Divvy order.

For those busy times when I don’t bake our bread, we love the Shepherd's Artisan Bakehouse sourdough loaves. We usually have a backup loaf in the freezer.
They don’t contain all the junk that supermarket sourdough contain. We purchase these loaves with our Box Divvy order making it even easier. 🤩

For those bakers out there enjoying baking their own bread, give this wholesome recipe a go.

Recipe will be in comments.

Nothing is more cosy to do on a rainy day , then to do some baking.
I baked this delicious and moist Chocolate Zucchini Cake with a Zucchini from our garden and the baking goods purchased from Box Divvy including; eggs, premium bakers flour, chocolate chips, sugar, etc.
One change to the recipe I made was adding around 1 cup of chocolate chips.

The frosting I made from cream cheese and maple syrup.

A little harvest from our veggie garden.
When you grow your own veggies, you realise just how much work goes into cultivating and growing them.
That’s why we choose to shop with Box Divvy, so that more of our money goes to the farmers, the ones putting the most work to provide our food! 🥒🍅

Bamboo cleaning cloths

In our quest to reduce our (micro) plastics use, we’re introducing Ecokaps Bamboo Cleaning Cloths. They are $6.47 per 5-pack and they’re re-usable.

These cleaning cloths are made from 90% bamboo, which is fully compostable, and 10% polyester (which is not). They come in a bundle of 5 cloths, each measuring 180mm x 220mm. Because they are white (rather than multi-coloured), you'll know when they need to go through the laundry cycle so you can keep using them again and again.

They are quite absorbent, durable, gentle on surfaces and naturally antibacterial. However, the biggest advantage is environmental: they are 90% renewable (bamboo is a fast-growing renewable resource), and 90% of its fibres are compostable. This is a major advantage over microfibre - usually a blend of polyester and polyamide, but can also include polypropylene, acrylic, or viscose. As the fabric wears out, microplastics are released into the environment. This is becoming a major health issue: microplastics have been found not only across our food chain, but they are also present in almost every human organ including our brain, the blood stream and bone marrow. The impact on our health is yet unknown, but it can't be good. That's why Box Divvy is committed to reduce plastics from our products as much as possible.
