Happy Friday everyone! It’s raining today so it’s perfect art weather for me! I’be had a few days off work so I’ve been able to catch up on quite a few orders. Hope you are all well and I can’t wait to share my next creation.

Delightful “Henry” - a special portrait for a happy little man. He is blind and his owner asked if I could capture his unique opaque eyes. I can imagine his happy tail wagging in this portrait.

This project took me quite a long time as I had two portraits ordered of both doggies! As you can see, hand painting always ends up creating a different result each and every time. That’s the beauty of watercolour too, the paints have a mind of their own. Lovely little Max had recently passed away and it was a beautiful memory to paint him with his best friend Holly.

Happy everyone! I thought I would share some weekend cuteness with you all. My baby Magpie Geese are going so well, growing every day and so full of spirit and energy! I am so proud of them both, after a rocky start to life, they are now thriving with our care ❤️

All animals go to Heaven. This I am 100% sure of. When I paint a portrait of a beloved pet that has passed away, I take a few moments to imagine what they look like, bathed in the spectrum of colours as they cross the Rainbow Bridge to be young and healthy and waiting for us to meet them again. Happy Tuesday everyone! I’ve been super busy with wildlife rescues the past few weeks…along with work (my day job as an electrician), and of course beautiful portraits of your pets and wildlife!

I am SO grateful for every single person here who has made my dream a reality! Sales of my portraits go directly towards my little wildlife care clinic at my home. I thought I would share my latest babies in care and show you exactly who you are helping!

Please welcome Ryan and Rose the Magpie Goose twins. And also Cookie, our baby Pheasant Coucal. These babies will be with me for quite a number of months until they are mature enough to start their journey back into the wild. Hope you love their cuteness as much as I do!

I truly enjoyed creating this Wedge-Tailed Eagle painting. He graces my largest paper size - an A2 sheet (420 x 594mm) and will look magnificent on the wall for his new owner in Cairns!

I want to say a huge THANKYOU to each and every person here who has ordered one of my hand painted pet portraits! I absolutely LOVE painting animals, and creating art that is meaningful to people and shows their love for their pets is definitely a bonus!

Here is a small selection showing different styles and layouts of my pet portraits. Rainbow splash style is always lots of fun, but I can adjust my paint palette to suit individual styles!

These two handsome Staffordshire Bull Terrier boys are having their own personal portraits done 😍 I just finished Mr Hamish this evening and am moving on to Mr Dexter. Using complimentary but unique colour palettes will make the portraits match, whilst keeping the individual characteristics of each pup-star!

This is why I love watercolours! You can guide the colours where you would like them to be, but the real magic happens when they meet under the right conditions! Just look at these blooms and “ferns”! This is why every single portrait is 100% unique!!

Beautiful “Stevie” the ginger cat has his own special portrait now! I enjoyed working with sunset inspired colours this time as I wanted to capture his ginger and gold coat. I added his bow because he is a gentleman of course!

A sweet pair of very best friends 💕 I was able to combine these two babies into one rainbow portrait using photos as references. Indy and Jazzy are both over the Rainbow Bridge now, this is a beautiful memento for their loving Mum.

Why did I call my art business “The Painted Curlew”?

I am passionate about wildlife rescue and conservation, and I specialise in rescue and rehabilitation of the Bush Stone Curlew here in Far North QLD, Australia. I started selling my artwork to raise funds which help me to improve my facilities at home and help pay for veterinary visits, medication and food.

Here is a photo of my very special Curlew friend “Raptor”. I raised Raptor from an abandoned egg. He was and always will be the most special little guy to me. Two years on, after his release to the wild he still recognises me and stops by to say hello.

Happy Friday everyone! I’ve been busy working on so many beautiful portraits this week plus answering messages from all over the world and helping people plan their special pet portraits! What an amazing week!

I haven’t properly introduced myself or my beautiful family so I thought I’d start here.
I live in tropical North Queensland, Australia with my daughter, my partner and our three gorgeous dogs. I’ve shared a photo below of our furkids Jaslyn (black Ridgeback X), Daisy (white Boxer) and Cassia (tan Boxer).

I am also a wildlife carer specialising in reptiles and birds. My permanent residents are Pirate the Bearded Dragon and Sebastian the Blue Tongue Lizard along with Paris and Diamond our pythons. At any given time I can have other wild reptiles in care along with birds and small mammals as required. I have a small setup on my property for hospital and emergency cases and I started painting to raise money to fund my volunteer work and hopefully one day build a rescue clinic!
