Did you know we see injured wildlife? Saskia is holding a kookaburra that was brought into the clinic. After being checked by our vets, it went to a wildlife carer for rehabilitation.

Meet little Charlie that nurse Saskia is holding. Poor little Charlie got into a dog fight. Charlie is only 10 weeks old and went into shock and was treated by Dr Courtney and nurse Saskia and the team. He is a little fighter and after a full day of intensive care he has bounced back and made a full recovery. Saskia was so happy to see him the next day and we were all so glad to see he was back to his bouncy self.

EDIT - Power is back on!!!

Unfortunately we are experiencing a power outage and the power may not be back on for the rest of today (Tuesday) so we will be closing the clinic early. The phones are still going through to our 13Vets team who will be able to still book appointments from tomorrow or direct you in case of an emergency. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Meet Duke! He came in for his vaccination and was very happy to talk to the nurses at reception. Duke loves competing in agility and recently did well at the Royal Show! He came 1st in Masters Agility and SA State Champ in Masters jumping. Well done Duke!👏👏👏

Meet Teddy that came into the clinic as he was experiencing some car sickness when travelling. He was such a good boy sitting for his treats in the consult room. We have sent Teddy home with some medication that will hopefully stop him from feeling sick in the car and he can continue to go travelling with his owners.

Dr Carol was a little bit obsessed with Walter the whippet that came in for vaccination last week. We had to stop her sneaking out the back door and going home with him 😄
He was such a good boy for his puppy vaccination and got lots of cuddles 🥰

Meet Clem 😍 he's a 9 week old Golden Retriever.
Clem visited us last week for his first vet check with Dr Carol. He was so calm and happy to be in the clinic. These first vet visits are so important to make a positive experience with treats and rewards. Isn't Clem such a good boy sitting for his treat on the scales? 🥰

Playful Willow decided she was going to take on a snake yesterday and didn't win! Unfortunately she was bitten, however her owners witnessed her with the snake and brought her in immediately for treatment. Our team quickly assessed and administered the antivenom and it didn't take long for us to see some improvement. She was stabilised and spent the night at the emergency center for observation and fluids. Willow came back today and we gave her a certificate for her bravery. This is particularly early for snakes to be about, however with these sunny days please keep an eye out for them 🐍

Chickens have some pretty clever ways of beating the winter chill, but they may still need your help. Like all birds, chickens use their feathers for insulation by fluffing them up and trapping the air. But for the times when nature is hard to predict, good pet care involves providing appropriate refuge.

❄️Insulation❄️
In cold parts of Australia, you could insulate your chicken coop with tree branches, cardboard, or straw. Care should be taken if hay or straw is used for insulation, as these can become infested with mold and vermin and carry chicken parasites. Also, remember to keep the insulation tidy. Keeping the coop clean and dry is essential as most bacteria, fungi, and parasites thrive in warm, moist environments.

☀️Warmer climates☀️
If you live in one of the warmer Australian states then you probably won’t need to install insulation in your chicken coop at all. Open, ventilated coops are more important. Learn more tips on coop setup on our website, or alternatively, visit your local Greencross Vets for expert advice.

Winter is here! We feel it's going to be a super cold one, and chances are if you are feeling cold your furry friend is too.

Here are some ways to keep your pet warm in the Winter:

💚Keep your pet inside
💚Provide a warm, soft, elevated bed
💚Warm coats are great for pets that are senior, small or have thin coats
💚Move your guinea pigs hutch inside the house or garage
💚Provide extra straw and hay so small pets can burrow and hide
💚Keep all bedding dry
💚Wrap a loose blanket over your pet, but don’t tuck them in. They still need to be able to move away from it if they overheat
💚Walk your furry friend during the day when it’s not as cold

Karl completed a Bachelor of Animal Science at the University College of Dublin in 2014. He moved to Budapest, Hungary to complete a postgraduate degree in Veterinary Medicine.

Dr. Natashia Evans, an Emergency and Critical Care Specialist at ARH Gosford, emphasises the importance of year-round parasite prevention, even as we transition into winter.
