Foot note this was shared from us to you from another snake catchers page but it explains a lot for hopefully you to understand what we do and why we do it........................... Snake relocation costs
We have seen a few people of late had to deal with complaints about the costs for getting a snake removed. We made the decision not to provide snake relocation services as part of our business due to a few reasons including both the market rates and the paucity of survival for translocated snakes. Below is a breakdown of the costs of snake relocation.

The average relocation takes 2.5 hours (30 mins there, 30 minutes to catch, 30 minutes to release, 30 minutes home, 15 minutes record keeping, 15 minutes for other items (washing gear, charging equipment, risk assessments, putting in fuel etc).

Then add upskilling, vehicle costs, insurances, equipment, (time spent finding reliable equipment and insurances etc) advertising, sick leave, annual leave, super.

Add to that, you get called out on weekends, at midnight, public holidays, seasonal work costs etc. Then all the free consults over the phone (what's this, I saw this a week ago etc)....someone is paying for that (it's you the snake catcher).

If you are a business, then you need to charge your time appropriately. If you work on the average contracting licenced trade hourly rate of 110 p/h at 2.5 hours plus costs and dare I say it a profit margin, someone charging say $150 for a call out is providing charity not a service provided by a business.... remember 99.999% of people would not do what you are doing let alone for a loss.

There is really nothing like getting a phone call at 2 am and then getting screamed at because you have the audacity to charge a fee. It is an unfortunate side to the rising costs of living and one that many people never see.

FROM THE FRONT PAGE: As the first weeks of Spring bring warmth to the region, some of the Limestone Coastโ€™s reptiles are also on the move. Snake sightings are being reported across the region, including along the walking trail around Mount Gambierโ€™s famed Blue Lake.

As the weather starts to warm up, members of the public are reminded to stay vigilant when in areas usually inhabited by snakes.

This tiger snake was spotted on a walking trail near Glencoe yesterday, with a lowland copperhead seen just minutes later.

While the copperhead is venomous, the snake which is often dark-coloured with an orange to red belly and regularly confused with a red-bellied black snake, will usually move away if threatened rather than bite, as is the case with many snakes.

If you see a snake, the department for Environment and Water suggest keeping away from it and not trying to catch or kill it, as this is often when people are bitten. If it's on your property, you can call a snake catcher to remove it (David Miles - 0409280837)

If bitten, it's recommended you call 000 and apply a pressure bandage, while keeping the person calm until they can receive medical help.

Keep in mind with this warmer weather coming up, snakes will be starting to venture out. Especially down here in the south east where the snakes here are used to cooler temperatures.

Hereโ€™s somethings to keep in mind:
1. All snakes in the lower south east are venomous and highly dangerous if aggravated.
2. Most snakeโ€™s just want to keep moving on and generally will only bite if feeling scared or threatened
3. Keep back yards and gardens as tidy as possible
4. Be understanding of animals that we share out space with. They have a purpose as much as we do.
5. Keep children aware of what to do if a snake is seen
6. Be safe and donโ€™t play with them. They arenโ€™t a toy.

Feel free to reach out for more information and donโ€™t hesitate to call a snake catcher to remove unwanted reptiles. This is a service, we do charge. Just as any tradesman or service provider would. But we are very reasonably priced compared to cities.

Also just keep in mind there are some situations where it is unsafe or impossible for us to remove snakes. We do our best. This isnโ€™t the easiest job at all, I donโ€™t think many people would be interested in taking this on. So we do our best to help everyone in every situation.

Donโ€™t forget, give us a call or message any time to ask more!
