Agistment at our Academy is ideal for someone wanting to further their horses knowledge and their own skill level with regular coaching. Agistment costs, temporary and permanent, for those that enquired: Weekly cost $60: Add labour which includes preparing feeds and feeding out 3 times a day, unrugging and rugging as weather dictates $77 ($11/day), hay currently $63/week, manure collection $20, if owners cannot attend for farrier, dentist, etc. $15 to bring in, hold and put back out, but no extra fees for use of indoor, lights, etc. Hard feed cost and supply worked out to suit owner.

So pleased to see that this amazing Institution has been acknowledged a second time, now for the stud at Piber, and will hopefully be protected, nurtured, preserved and somehow financed for the world's citizens, whether horsey or not, to love and enjoy.
🇺🇸 Did you know, that the Spanish Riding School has been inscribed onto the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity since 2016? The knowledge concering the breeding of Lipizzan horses in our stud farm Piber has been added in 2022 - because being excellent once just wasn't enough. 😉

Love having our super Working Equitation Equipment out after 2 years of Covid uncertainty. Very nice eye candy for rider and horse. When a WEq Course looks attractive you can't wait to ride it.
Interested? Call me on 0408.084.777, come and have a look and we have an open day this Sunday 7th Nov from 9 to 2pm too.
Sarita calls trick training ‘Yoga for Horses’ and loves teaching it - Check out our upcoming 'All Things Ground Work' Masterclass course, details in yesterday's post!
Trick training is the most wonderful way of developing the horse's mind and body, adding variety and interest into their training routines, not to mention the wonderful bonding with their human.
Video shows an unbroken Welshie and his owner being assisted by Sarita at their first lesson learning to step up onto a small platform, relax, and then learning how to step back AND down. The Working Equitation bridge on one side was used to give visual and physical guidance and stability to the little man.
Next was negotiating the bridge which he took in his stride.
Such groundwork prepares horses and ponies for their future life by giving them a confident foundation to build on.
W.A. Immersion student learning about Spanish Walk - thankyou Andrea Crichton-Brown for sending through for us to share. Slow, elegant, balanced, quiet - great effort for your very first time. Love how you put this to music - I need lessons myself in such things.
An answer to one of the many Fb, email and phone questions we receive each week that you may find of interest....
Thankyou for your email ...(deleted for privacy).
There are a number of suggested origins of the Spanish Walk. One was during battle to check if a soldier lying on the ground was in fact dead. I use it for that NOT, and others reasons as well.
Horses like doing it as it doesn't take a great deal of effort but gets huge praises.
As with Solitaire, it teaches the horse to steady and balance the walk beyond what is normally expected. Soli only knew flat out or stop when he came to me for schooling, so getting a nice walk while lifting and extending his legs was difficult. Soli has developed the movement considerably since the attached video was taken last week. Ridden with reins he is more expressive and consistent in the lift and rhythm at this point in his training.
Spanish Walk activates and frees the shoulders and can enhance passage and lead to Spanish Trot. All the horses I teach Spanish Walk eventually lift their legs with much expression and elevation, placing their hooves carefully back to the ground without any sound of them returning whatsoever, and this requires much precision, with horses learning to engage their backs and hind quarters to balance themselves during the exercise.
If one wishes, it can also be done relatively easily in rein-back and half-pass.
I understand Edward Gal used it in the training of Totilas, which led to Spanish Trot, and then the 'Show Trot' which that horse displayed and also received such high marks for in comps. Blue Hors Matinee, 2nd in the WEG 2006, was schooled similarly. I'm personally not happy with manufacturing the trot in that manner and the judges rewarded and keep rewarding the physically damaging 'Show Trot' that the crowds so love and applaud in their ignorance of the detrimental consequences for the horses.
Spanish Trot is a great movement when executed properly but a waste of time and detr
7th Spanish Walk session - Clare Delaney's ASH Solitaire has now learnt to lift both front legs AND today he has started to move forwards as well. Most importantly Solitaire is lowering the lifted leg GENTLY to the ground unlike so many YouTubes and DVD's that are being sold where the front legs bang down, rather than a well executed exercise that frees the shoulders and ENGAGES the hindquarters of the horse so the horse learns to step under each step, instead of the hindquarters trailing behind which is the main cause of the front legs in Spanish Walk banging down. Thankyou Vicki Went for assisting Barrie from the ground.
