Windamere Horse Haven

Windamere Horse Haven Equine Sanctuary for Neglected, Abandoned & Abused Horses. WINDAMERE HORSE HAVEN Association Inc is a horse rescue charity which was established in 2013.

Its aim is to help save abused, neglected and abandoned horses and to try and give them a second chance at life through rehabilitation and re-education in a caring environment, with a view to rehoming to a forever home. As part of their rehabilitation and care, Windamere horses are provided with individualised supplementary feeding, and farrier, dental and routine vet care and also equine massage/

bodywork as needed. Once we have helped a horse recover to full health and it has undergone a retraining program with our horse trainer, we will try and find a suitable adoptive home. We attempt to match horse and prospective owners and offer ongoing support. Windamere Horse Haven is mainly funded by donations or ongoing sponsorship which can be for as little as $10 per week. Individual donations/sponsorship as well as those from businesses are very much appreciated. Even having a donation box on a sales counter can help fund the horses in our care. Sponsors will receive a letter of introduction to Windamere as well as regular periodic newsletters. Donations and sponsorship over $2.00 is tax deductable. If you would like to donate/sponsor or have a donation box on your sales counter, would like to know more, or want to download a sponsorship form please visit our website www.windamerehorsehaven.com , or email us at [email protected]

It’s a very sad day here at Windamere

Last night we lost Comet to colic and he went over the rainbow bridge.

He had two visits from Equus Veterinary Services in the afternoon and later last night, where it was clear we had to give him his wings.

One of the favorite horses with our volunteers, he was rehabilitated from crippling laminitis and terrible teeth, into a happy friendly pony with the most soulful kind eyes.

Rest in peace old boy. You will be missed.

Today we held our annual sponsor and volunteer bbq day. With a horsemanship and bodywork demonstration by Equine Bodywork and Training

The weather was beautiful, fantastic food and great to meet old and new sponsors.

Thank you to all our sponsors and volunteers for their ongoing dedication and support of Windamere and our mission to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome horses.

Thank you also to Woodside Butchers for donating the sausages for the day.

Chilli has her halter off - she can now be caught in her training yard, so we can give her nose a bit of a break from the rubbing that her halter was giving her.

She’s a 15yo thoroughbred mare who needs to learn to trust humans again.

Hi, Pebbles here

Im still in my sand yard but last week we had a new lot of sand delivered to make my tootsies more comfortable. It’s nice and soft and makes me look all yellow like a banana. Yuck!

Last week the vet lady came to see me. She stole more of my precious blood and I told her she was naughty. Sorry about that. Oops.

My insulation levels were down to normal from the machine they tested it in when they were here so the ertugliflugziwugziflossyflozin is doing its stuff. It only took a few minutes to test (once they had my blood haha) how cool is that.

Today they told me that I am a cushion horse this year. I think that means that I am white and fluffy and square shaped. But I don’t think they would try to sleep on me, I might tell them they are naughty too if they try.

I am starting a tablet tomorrow to make me less like a cushion, and hopefully my hooves won’t hurt anymore after.

Despite me not liking vets, I am thankful to Equus Veterinary Services for being so patient with me and for getting me one of their free tests for the cushions, which saved my rescue people lots of dollars which they can now spend on other stuff for me.

Peace out
Pebs

We are very grateful for the ongoing donation of rugs, tack and other horsey stuff at our drop off locations around the hills.

These donations are a crucial part of our rescue, with donated goods either being used for the horses in care, or sold for fundraising to pay for hay, feed, farrier and vet expenses.

Dropoff locations are at

Horseland Mt Barker
Marlborough Park Saddlery
Kersbrook Hardware and fodder
Hooves Paws & Claws St Agnes and One Tree Hill
and at our base at Mt Torrens

We do ask that donations are servicable and usable. Items that are moldy, soiled with manure, cockroaches or are torn to pieces are not able to be used or sold, and we have to pay to dispose of these items. Please help us and our volunteers by disposing of these items in your regular hard waste collection.
