Back to GREEN Paddocks…
Who’s having to manage laminitis prone horses again? 🙋♀️🙈
Feels like Queensland!
Just a little bit of afternoon fun 🙈#besthorseintheworld #horsemanship #horsemanshipaustralia #cowboy4wd_85 #rixs_tricks
Thinking about the cues we create within our training…
Matt may have been a little unhappy that I was spoiling his horse 😂🤷♀️ But let’s be serious… She’s our honeybee 💖 Who else has a smoochy mare who loves to be loved?

Following on from yesterdays TEAMWORK post...
Here's a little snippet from our current colt start.
This is Nightwing’s first ride - it’s how most of the first rides go. As you can see Ken is providing support helping Nightwing to feel safe and giving him assurance from the ground which is what he is used to feeling. He's able to reassure Nightwing if he starts to feel overwhelmed and help him work through those emotions keeping Matt safe. Using this time honoured method is of huge benefit to the horses and to the safety of those working with them.
They are able to progress quickly as cues learned through ground skills are transferred to his back in the fist ride.
Matt is often putting the first few rides on. His skill of allowing horses to feel him on board yet giving horses the leadership and assurance needed to know they are doing great is a serious skill and is paramount to helping horses through the starting process.
Working in partnership with the horse allows them to feel like they are part of the team. They can participate and give rather than having it taken from them. There’s a very different energy in that.
The added bonus of having 2 riders is that horses are much better prepared for their future riding career. They are less startled by a new riders change in balance, feel, timing or weight and become far more experienced and confident in a shorter period of time. Our son Tyson has started working with us too and has become a valuable asset to our team.
I love watching this process evolve as by the time we are handing these beautiful horses back they are ready for the next exciting chapter of their journey!
I wanted to share this sweet session Lillian had with Matt last night 🥰
I love Matt’s teaching style and how he is so considerate to both horse and human. He allows them to feel supported through the struggle and steps in when needed but doesn’t take the experience away from either party.
Matt has worked hard on being a great student and understands the huge responsibility it is to be a teacher. He has the opinion that if his student isn’t understanding then he needs to change his delivery.
On a side note… for all those Foundation 1 students wanting to practice ground skills 1-3; Lillian has done a lovely demonstration for you 😜
Who got flowers today? I didn’t either 😂😂
But… what I did get is this stunning custom made halter especially for me - chosen by Matt!!!
Our friends over at Halter Heaven definitely came home with the goods! Love your work guys 😘🙌
