Meet Dr. Hannah 👩🏽‍⚕️

🎓 She graduated from the University of Sydney in 2021 and moved to Launceston at the start of 2024 after working in a rural mixed practice in NSW for 2 years.

That’s when she first started locuming here at Mowbray, and loved the team so much she kept coming back!

"I was absent from Mowbray for 7 months last year, as I was working as the on-site veterinarian for Sanaga Yong Chimpanzee Rescue in Cameroon (the country south of Nigeria)" 🐒

Hannah has a rescue cat named Margaret (who became a patient at Mowbray while she was in Africa after she jumped onto the hot stove and burnt her toe beans), and Hannah has an ex-guide dog Labrador called Zoom who knows lots of cool tricks.

When she's not working she enjoys rock climbing, running, hiking and fundraising for Sanaga Yong Chimpanzee Rescue.

We asked Hannah if she could be any animal in the world what would she be? She said "I would be my cat Margaret or my dog Zoom as they’re the most loved animals in the whole world." 💕

Paralysis tick is present here in Tasmania, especially in bush and coastal areas where wildlife are in high numbers.

Early signs of paralysis tick bites in pets can include a change or lack of coordination of the hind legs, change in breathing rate, gagging or coughing, vomiting, and dilated pupils.

You can prevent most of the dangerous signs of paralysis tick toxicity by using a preventative against ticks. We stock a number of treatments to help protect your cats and dogs from paralysis tick toxicity.

If you suspect your pet has a tick please bring them into us for treatment as soon as possible!

Meet Dr. Joshua 👋

Joshua was born in New Zealand and moved to Brisbane at an early age where he did all of his schooling. After high school he studied Veterinary Science at the University of Queensland. He's the youngest of five children and is the only one who does not work in a (human) hospital! 🏥

We asked Josh what inspired him to be a vet? He said "When I was a kid our family dog got into an accident, after taking him to the vet and them saving his life I told my mum I wanted to be a vet."

We also asked him if he could have an all-expenses paid trip to anywhere in the world, where would he go and why?

His response: "Either to the artic to see a wild Polar Bear as I think they are really cool animals, or on a cruise to Antarctica, just to say I went to Antarctica." 🐻‍❄️

The lovely Milo.. a 1 year old Springer Spaniel X - found by his owner in the backyard with a snake in his mouth.

Thankfully he was rushed into us and we were able to treat him with anti-venom and emergency treatment.

He made a wonderful recovery 🙌

🦷 We are seeing increasing numbers of dogs and cats with dental disease. One key way to stop the progression of dental disease is by brushing your cat and dog's teeth.

We recommend brushing your pet's teeth 3-4 times a week using an extra soft toothbrush. There is special dog/cat friendly toothpaste available at our clinic - don't use human toothpaste.

Brushing removes harmful bacteria and plaque, preventing calculus from forming. This helps prevent the need for teeth extractions later in life and reduces the risks of bacterial infections both in the mouth and elsewhere in the body.

We have put together a few tips on how to brush you cat or dogs teeth at home!

When we heard of Story Dogs, we knew this was something we needed to support! 🐕💕 Story Dogs enables a child and a dog with their volunteer handler to have a weekly one-on-one reading session held at the child’s reading level throughout the course of a school year. The amazing work of story dogs helps over 2,930 children every week to become confident lifelong readers. 📚📚 The beautiful Meg is a 7 year old poodle who has recently come on board to be a story dog for year 2 students at a local school. Marj, who is Meg's owner, tells us that she also enjoys agility sports in her "down time" ... Both Meg and marj are there to support the students and get them to open up and gain confidence in their reading skills. We wish Meg and Marj all the best in their work of the coming year to help local children build confidence, learn new skills, and change lives!
