North Coast branch has been operational for almost 25 years. Our branch area covers from Tweed Heads in the north to Coffs Harbour in the south. We run a desexing assistance scheme through participating vets across the entire branch area during October – May each year. If you are interested in utilising this service please contact us via phone or email. Periodically throughout the year we conduct
discounted microchipping days – lookout for advertising when an event will be held near you. We also operate a Cat Adoption Centre in Mullumbimby which cares for surrendered cats/kittens until they are adopted. All of our cats/kittens available for adoption can be viewed on our page. We don’t receive any government funding towards the care, health and welfare of animals in our care. Money is raised through a variety of regular fundraising events, (such as sausage sizzles, street stalls, and local markets), and from donations. We welcome animal lovers with time available, to assist at the cattery, as foster carers for very young kittens, to help with fundraising, handy people for small maintenance jobs at the cattery, and anyone with good computer skills. Monthly meetings held at Uniting Church, Mullumbimby, second Wednesday of every month, at 5.30 pm.

PRIVATE REHOMING 🐱🐈

Located Mullumbimby
Kitty Kat is a 14m desexed, registered, tabby gal.
She’s an affectionate, playful, social cat. She loves belly rubs, does little bunny paws when on her back, and is known to hang her tongue out when particularly blissed out. She loves cardboard boxes, shopping bags and a glove toy. She greets visitors; happy to get to know new people.
She’s curious, follows her human around, but very much a home body, spending most of her time indoors.
Kitty Kat would get on with a receptive cat of similar age/activity levels, is untested with dogs, and is great with children. She’s still establishing her dietary requirements and is up-to-date with worm/flea/tick treatments.
A very reluctant rehoming. After a year of trying, Kitty Kat is not living her best life as the existing mature cat hates her! Both cats are now exhibiting stress behaviours.
Freddy (f) and Zorro (m) are 9w kittens, the last of their litter. They're sweet, adorable kittens. They're in foster care, and available to leave us mid-January.
Heads Up!🌡Heat stroke is a common and horrifying problem for pets this holiday season. 🎄
Heat stroke can affect any breed but is especially common in short-faced breeds, overweight animals, or elderly pets. A dark coat and long or matted hair doesn’t help either 🦣. Heat stroke can kill a pet in as little as 20 minutes 😳. It’s devastating and very difficult to treat! Not only can pets die rapidly with respiratory failure, they can also develop complex metabolic disasters such as catastrophic bleeding disorders and bloody diarrhoea as their whole biochemistry is disrupted by a sky-high body temperature. 🥵 Keep your pets cool, don’t leave them in cars (!) and do not exercise your at-risk pets in the middle or end of the day when the temperature is up and especially when it's humid 🌞. And please don’t drag your dogs along behind your bike, especially after 10am. Early morning is best for exercise in these cases. Always carry water for your pet, and hose them down after exercise. Clipping long-haired pets (and any breed can be clipped in spite of some hair-fantasies promoted on the internet and some breeders) is a very good idea but needs to be booked-in well in advance.
Be aware folks, and avoid this traumatic and preventable situation! 😣

Hardy (m), Harlow (f) and Harper (f) are delightful 9w kittens. They're affectionate and playful bundles of joy. Currently in foster care, and ready to leave us beginning of January, once their vet work is done.
McGyver is a divine 3yo panther aka large black cat. He was hanging around a property near Grafton, no-one knew him/his owner, not claimed from the vet nor pound, and we are the lucky guardians of him. He is super affectionate and chill and gets along with other cats. His lovely nature suggests he'd get on with dogs and like small humans. Please contact us if you want this good boy in your life.
Adopting a little wooden cat will help with our fundraising... For sale at $20 each at Made in Mullum Gallery & Artisan Collective.
Only available in-store.
Made by one of our volunteers using recycled timber and nails. Each one is different.

Jamila is approx 10m old and very sweet, affectionate and calm. She was found up a tree in Casino, no-one knew her. Sadly not microchipped and not claimed, after impound was surrendered to us. Ready to leave us when we've fattened her up a little and done her vet work.
Baxter 2yo male was hanging around a property near Federal, looking a little worse for wear. Not known to anyone, he was taken to the Vet. Not microchipped, he did his impound and wasn't claimed.

Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1979 AWL NSW Rehoming Organisation Number: R251000222.
The Animal Welfare League NSW has volunteer-operated branches across New South Wales.
North Coast branch has been operational for almost twenty years. It is run entirely by volunteers, dedicated to improving the lives of companion animals in the local area, caring for surrendered, neglected, or abandoned cats, and rehoming them to a loving home.
Our branch area covers from Tweed Heads in the north to Coffs Harbour in the south.
We operate a Cat Adoption Centre in Mullumbimby, where surrendered cats are cared for, prior to adoption. From October - May we offer assistance towards the cost of desexing pets; via participating vets in the region. We also conduct cheap microchipping events a few times per year.
Money is raised through a variety of regular fundraising events, (such as sausage sizzles, street stalls, and local markets), and from donations.
We don’t receive any government funding towards the care, health and welfare of animals in our care.
We welcome animal lovers with time available, to assist at the cattery, as foster carers for very young kittens, to help with fundraising, handymen for small maintenance jobs at the cattery, and anyone with good computer skills.
Monthly meetings held at Mullumbimby Uniting Church, second Wednesday of every month, at 5.30 pm.
As AWL NSW branches are run by volunteers and are always in need of new faces to join their dedicated teams. There are many opportunities available to help animals at your local branch, some of which may include:
Donations: Every branch needs donations in order to survive and continue their work with local animals. Contact your local branch to make a donation, or participate in one of their fundraising events.
Events: Branches regularly participate in events to help raise money for their cause. This may be anything from a BBQ at Bunnings to a stall at a local fair. Events are a great way to be involved with your local branch if you can’t commit to set days every week.
Fundraising: You can raise money for your local branch by initiating your own fundraising activities. Coin drives at your school and placing donation tins at your place of work are great ways you can raise money to help animals.
Foster care: If you have space at your place for an animal awaiting a home you may be able to foster through your local branch. Fostering is a great hands-on experience which gives you the opportunity to see first-hand the difference you’re making.
Animal transportation: Sometimes animals in branch care need to travel for appointments and their foster parents or other branch members may not be available to do it. If you have reliable transportation and would like to “help when you can” you can offer your animal transportation services to your local branch.
Admin: Like all organisations, AWL NSW Branches must complete paperwork and hold regular meetings which require minute taking. If you have admin experience you may be able to lend your skill set to your local branch.
Photography: Branches that are involved in rehoming animals always need good photography to showcase their animals in the best light. If you have a knack for photography and a love of animals your local branch may be able to utilise your skills.
