Don’t let a storm catch you off guard! Ensure your furry friends are safe and sound. 🐾

Loud noises and lightning flashes from thunderstorms can cause panic in pets. Follow the below tips to keep your loved companion safe and comfortable during a storm.

🐶🐱 If you're at home:
• Turn on the radio or TV to dim the noise from outside.
• Close the blinds or curtains and leave the lights on so that lightning flashes from outside are less obvious.
• Close bird cages, rabbit hutches and other enclosures and ensure pet doors and windows are closed.

🐦‍🐇 If you cannot be at home to comfort your pet:
• Make sure there is nothing in the house or yard the animal can injure itself on if it panics.
• Ensure the pet is in a secure environment so it cannot escape, run onto a road or become lost.

The Lake Coffee and Wine Co are collaborating with MHA Care to offer the most vulnerable, lonely and needy in our community the chance to celebrate Christmas with a free community supported lunch at our cafe.

This event will include a traditional Christmas lunch, desserts, snacks, face painting, games, free raffles and a gift from Santa for every child who attends.

Held on Sunday 17th December from 10am-4pm, this event will be supported by donations from the local community and staff who will be volunteering their time on the day.

Please contact MHA Care or The Lake Coffee and Wine Co to RSVP or for further information. RSVP's are essential.

SHOUT OUT: If you are a local business keen to get involved with the supply of goods, toys, gift vouchers or food for this event, please let us know- any assistance would be greatly appreciated to make this day a truly special one.

We have sent a few dogs for vet visits lately finding grass seeds through Paws and Body.

Grass seeds: Seemingly innocent but unequivocally dangerous and potentially lethal, these little brutes can easily get caught on your pet’s fur and embed themselves to their skin very quickly. If left untreated, grass seeds can cause a whole heap of problems. These problems range across the spectrum from a minor irritation all the way to the worst consequence imaginable.

Grass seeds are great carriers of bacteria and once they pe*****te the skin, infection is inevitable. If left untreated, the infection could spread or the seed could move around internally and cause severe internal damage. Once they are inside the body, there is no treatment plan other than surgery to find them and remove them along with prolonged use of antibiotics and antifungals to prevent reinfection at the site of the surgery. It’s a lot of avoidable stress.
