So a few years ago I got myself a heeler pup from a strong working line. Which was a great idea at the time because I wanted a new truck-dog and trail buddy. However, just as he entered peak Baby Velociraptor stage, I found out I was pregnant and then a few months later my marriage ended. Between the exhaustion, significant medical complications during pregnancy, caring for a toddler solo while heavily pregnant, and trying to make ends meet etc, I failed as a dog owner when it came to sufficient training. I did my best, but it simply wasn't good enough.

Fast forward to when the baby human arrives and this little red terror is constantly off chasing cars and bin diving, I would lock him up, he would climb out, I fenced the yard, and he was SO motivated to chase things he would rip holes in the fence to make his escape. This also meant I couldn't trust him to come trail riding with me when I started riding again, because it was such a risk he could run off to chase something.

Thankfully one of my dear friends was starting up her dog training business. While I'm good at training dogs from scratch, I've never had to train a dog with such a high chase drive and I'd missed so many crucial steps along the way when life got crazy. Over just a few short months he improved enough to be relatively trustworthy out on the trail, but today he had a major test. My neighbour is growing out hay in a paddock. I'm riding along when we disturbed a sleeping kangaroo in the long grass, who shot up and bounded off. Red's chase drive was triggered, and he took off after the roo ... for the 0.5 seconds it took me to register what was going on and call him back. And this GOODEST BOY immediately stopped and came back to stand next to Booties the horse and watched while Mr Skippy went hopping down the street at max speed. If you had told me 2 years ago we'd see this level of improvement I don't know if I would have believed you.

Quick vid of a GluShu + Urethane Pour-In application. ⭐ Prep hoof and shoe like normal ⭐ Cut some mesh to size and glue on shoe with mesh in place ⭐ Once shoe is set secure a pad or dam of some sort to the shoe to keep your urethane where you want it (remember - urethane is STICKY and will bond to most things, but not to the shiny side of these pads. It WILL bond to the foam side! By wrapping or taping the pad on instead of peeling back the sticky part I can get a lot of uses out of one pad to try and help keep costs on consumables down for clients) Glushu kits, urethanes and accessories are available in our online store :)

Quick demo video for any hoof care practitioners wanting to know how to apply GluShus, or for owners who want to understand the process better. ------‐------------------------------------------------------------- FAQS ⭐ How long do they last? When well applied they should last your normal shoeing interval 5 to 8 weeks depending on horses growth and needs ⭐ Can I reuse them? While possible it's not practical. When glued on well you typically destroy the cuffs getting them back off (we have a removal video available too). ⭐ What kind of horse is this product good for? They're beneficial for many situations when used appropriately, but you find they are well worth using for horses who need extra hoof protection, but have trouble with nails limiting traditional options, and can't practically use hoof boots. Common e.g.s include dressage horses with brittle walls, endurance horses that have been unsuccessful keeping boots on, horses with hoof distortions that make boot fitting difficult, horses that don't tolerate hammering due to pedal osteitis, laminitis, etc ⭐ I'm a horse owner, can I do these myself? Can and should are two different things. If you already have basic trimming and hoof balancing knowledge then you might be able to learn these easily with the help of a mentor to guide you. If you don't know anything about hoof care or balance then I don't recommend trying to fix something to your horses hooves. ⭐ What size should I buy my 15hh horse? 🤷‍♀️ Just like us horses of the same height can have totally different foot sizes. Telling us their size in another brand often won't help either. We have a sizing chart available on the website. Best to measure after a fresh trim and consult with your hoof care practitioner to determine the best option prior to ordering. ⭐ Doesn't the horse hate the drill / heat gun? All tools should always be introduced to horses slowly and kindly. With that approach it's very rare that we encounter reluct

Sarah specialises in barefoot trimming for maintenance, performance and rehabilitation. She is also proficient in alternative materials such as glue on shoes and polyurethanes for rehabilitative purposes and times when barefoot may simply not be suitable. Sarah’s passion lies in helping horses with chronic laminitis especially when due to metabolic issues. She has a Diploma of Equine Podiotherapy, Bachelor of Animal Science, Master of Animal Science and is part way through a PhD project looking at the relationships between equine hoof care and welfare at The University of Melbourne.
