Had a pleasant trip to Bundanoon yesterday to collect a horse that had tested its owners for hours the week before in not wanting to load. Obviously I would always say get a professional but it saves the animal a lot of stress and owners time and money if the animal learns to load the right , calm and safe way. Thank you Helga for our great chat about training methods.

Nice to have a previous traveller who went to the northern beaches some time ago come back to Burra to a new home. A pleasant trip for driver and the lovely mare and I’m sure she will be happy in her new lodgings.

A plea to new horse buyers :
In the last couple of months I have been asked to collect horses for their new owners . In a couple of cases the horses were a combination of unsound; unmanageable and/or frankly downright dangerous and their new owners could have suffered serious injury .
Some buying guidelines:
*Always get a vet check ;
*always fact check what you are being told about your purchase ;
*Don’t take anyone’s word the horse is safe to ride - ask the seller to ride it first;
*always ask for a trial at your place over a few days or weeks - one prebooked ride does not necessarily mean you are seeeing the horse in his regular mental or physical state; a genuine seller should not object to this
*Always check ownership;
*If you are not particularly knowledgeable about horses, take someone with you who is.
Remember the old rule that if something seems too good to be true it probably is .
There are lots of genuine sellers with genuine horses in the market but not everyone is . Buyer beware

Stud season is upon us with the first foals of the season on the ground including at our place and mares going off to stud for early covers. Already done a couple of trips to studs and a couple more this week. Its always a great time to be visiting studs to see the new foals.

Another happy customer today - a beautiful retired thoroughbred gentleman who clearly has had some stressful transport experiences in the past, but not today . He had a pleasant trip across town and a relieved owner at the destination.

To my regular clients and prospective clients:
I will still accept emergency transport requests from previous clients for movements of animals within NSW under current regulations unless they tighten , but I will not accept tack or offer lifts for owners to travel with me . I look forward to again accepting clients’ horses for handling , weaning, pre breaking and floating education when this health crisis is behind us . If you don’t have to move yourself or your animals , please don’t . Staying put and isolated is my and the government’s preferred option at present.

I’m collecting horses from Canberra Equestrian Centre to EPIC starting first thing tomorrow . Just like fire plans, your large animal plans need to be in place. Update for my clients:
My truck is finally back from its sabbatical and has been busy relocating ponies and horses from fire areas. If you think your animals might be at risk please don’t leave it till the last minute. This Saturday sounds like it will be a horror and not a good day to be on the road if you don’t have to be. Stay safe

To my valued clients:
My truck has been in Melbourne being serviced for longer than I had hoped and the mechanic has been further delayed with flu . Hopefully I will be back in business by 1 December . In the meantime my work educating unhandled and difficult loaders is ongoing and the trusty float has been brought out of retirement and has done a great job. I don’t believe there is a horse that cannot be loaded and transported safely and without stress so contact me if I can be of assistance. I also handle weanlings and youngsters before they start their racing and showing careers

To Peter white livestock transport clients:
Our truck is currently having a new engine fitted so large loads of various species cannot be accommodated just at present. However I am still able to transport horses by float. Difficult to load horses are my specialty. I recently had two clients who were adamant their horses would not go on a float and in both cases the horses were loaded in minutes - stress free.
