📣 NATIONAL DESEXING MONTH 🎉

♥️🐾 IT’S ALMOST HERE 🐾♥️

Please meet the ‘Once Were’ pets, adopted by proud new owners via various animal shelters throughout Australia. Chase, Shirley, Bunny and PK are all showing their support for 2024’s National Desexing month.

📞 Please contact your local veterinary clinic to ask about taking advantage of the discounted prices for desexing your pet.

🏥 If your vet clinic is not participating, try a few other clinics in the area, you never know what discounts are out there.

⏰ ITS TIME TO BE HONEST❗️

🦮The community doesn't need anymore dogs and cats bred into a society that already struggles with pet ownership. There are not enough homes to go around for the animals already abandoned, let alone homes for the litters that were born yesterday, that are being born today, or the not yet born.

🐈‍⬛Take advantage of National Desexing Month and let’s put an end to homeless animals.

‘Mars’
IMP #: 578/2024

Staffy, Black, Male, 2Yrs.

Mars is a sweet boy that was found absolutely terrified on the streets. His owners knew where he was the day he arrived and did not care to come reclaim him and take him home. Instead, they left him here and he is now looking to upgrade to a family that will commit to him like he deserves.

His brother Rocky was also stuck here under similar circumstances however Rocky has found his furr-ever home.

✔️ Friendly – Whilst he was petrified of males when he first arrived, he has warmed up since being in care and now loves everyone!
✔️ Playful – This fella LOVES toys. He often grabs a toy to run along the fence line with a neighbouring dog.
✔️ Dog Social – Mars does enjoy the company of other dogs, although, he get a bit excited. He would suit a home with another bigger sized dog.
✔️ On-going training required – Mars does know basic commands; however, he is somewhat lacking some manners. He will need some on-going training to steer him into being the best boy he can be.
✔️ Food motivated – To help out with this, Mars is very food motivated and is eager to please for a good treat.

🐕 Please be aware that if there is an existing dog/s at home and you’re interested in meeting Mars, all existing dogs will be required to perform a meet and greet prior to adoption.
🐕 Mar’s adoption fee is $332.00 which includes the following: pre-desex health check, desex, microchipping, vaccination, worming, flea treatment and lifetime registration within New South Wales.

IMP #: 580/2024

Staffy, Black, Male, 2Yrs.

You may have seen an adoption post for Mars, well, this is Rocky, his brother. Rocky was found just a week after Mars under very similar circumstances. His owners had no interest in taking any responsibility for Rocky and wanted to leave him at the pound with no home, not caring about how anxious and scared he was. Now, just like Mars, Rocky is looking to upgrade to a family that cares.

🐕Friendly – Just like his brother Mars, Rocky was petrified of males when he first arrived, he has warmed up since being in care and now loves everyone.
🐕Sunbaking King – Rocky’s Favourite past time is sunbaking on his hammock bed!
🐕Playful – Rocky loves playing with toys and often grabs one to try and play with the other dogs.
🐕Cuddle Bug- Whilst Rocky enjoys some good playtime, he also lovvveeesss cuddles. He will happy lay with you and get your full attention.
🐕Dog Social – Rocky doesn’t seem to care who is around him and often tries to play with Flipper the female Bull Arab next to him. No formal introductions have been made.
🐕On-going training required – Rocky has basic commands down pact, however, he could work on his manners a bit. With some on-going training he will be the best boy.
🐕Food motivated – Rocky is very food motivated. This makes training so much easier.

🐩Please be aware that if there is an existing dog/s at home and you’re interested in meeting Rocky, all existing dogs will be required to perform a meet and greet prior to adoption.

♥️♥️ IN MEMORY OF ELLA ♥️♥️

The Muswellbrook Animal Care and Sustainability Hub had a visit from a very special family.

Tori, Richo, Rhylen and Logan came down to the Hub to donate some toys and treats to the dogs currently calling the Facility home.

🌈🐾Two years ago on 1 May, the family farewelled their loved and loyal dog, Ella. In her memory the family have created a beautiful and selfless tradition to honour Ella by helping other animals in need.

One of the Hub dogs, Saturn is ready to start pumping some squeaks with his new barbell, which was part of the family’s donated care package.

Thank you for caring.

❓I HAVE FOUND A STRAY ANIMAL. WHICH COUNCIL DO I CONTACT❓

Muswellbrook Shire Council includes Muswellbrook, Denman, Baerami, Kyuga, McCullys Gap, Martindale, Muscle Creek, Sandy Hollow and Wybong.

🦮 If you find an animal too far from home, contact Council’s Customer Service Department who will happily point you in the right direction to help these lost furry friends.

🛤️ DIDNT FIND THE ANIMAL IN THE MUSWELLBROOK SHIRE DISTRICT❓

🐈 Muswellbrook Shire Council are not responsible for animal incidents outside of its own council boundaries. These will need to be referred to the council area with the appropriate jurisdiction.

Unfortunately, many people are unaware of the right authority to contact in regards to stray animals.

🐾 One example, came to Muswellbrook Council all the way from Gungal on Monday 29 April. This young man was found at Gungal. The finder decided not to contact the correct Council in the Upper Hunter Shire, but instead drove the dog across the Council boundary and to Muswellbrook.

This can cause all sorts of problems for animals and the community such as:
⚫️ minimising the chance of reuniting pet and family.
⚫️ takes up space in a Facility where space is needed for that Council’s animal population.
⚫️ higher chance of euthanasia due to space demands.
⚫️ increases the spread of localised diseases and parasites, such as heartworm or hydatid tapeworm.
⚫️ unnecessary travel for both owner and finder.
⚫️ resources taken away from Council duties.

🐶 Please Note: This dog has been transferred from Muswellbrook Shire to Upper Hunter Shire. Please contact Upper Hunter Shire Council on 6540 1190 to organise reclaim.

🐶 Let’s keep our furry friends safe and secure at all times whatever Council you’re in ♥️

🐾 Council is unable to respond to comment threads. Please forward all enquiries to the contact details above.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Lest we forget.

🌺 Muswellbrook’s Neighbourhood History:
Are you aware that the street you live on was named after influential people, events and areas of World War 2❓
Tindale Street: Norman Tindale - lead a unit who cracked the Japanese naval code.
Tobruk Avenue: The Battle of Tobruk.
Kokoda Street: The Kokoda Track Campaign.

🐾 CATS AND DOGS APLENTY AT HIGHBROOK PARK 🐾

📣 Wow! What a turn out by pet owners today at Highbrook Park to visit the Animal Welfare League NSW.

🦮 Over 100 pets in the community got their health’s checked! It was a great day for vaccinations, microchips, good cats and good dogs. 🐈‍⬛

💝 Council would like to send out a huge thank you to the Animal Welfare League for visiting the Muswellbrook region as well as Nicole from Pet Medical for providing their health care services.

🐈 Most of all we would like to thank the community for their positive steps forward for a healthier and happier pet friendly community.

🐶 Fingers crossed that the NSW Government continues providing funding for such awesome community initiatives.

For those that weren’t able to visit the Animal Care and Sustainability team to receive their Responsible Pet Ownership information packs, don’t worry there are still heaps available at the Hub. The information packs include:

Start you responsible pet ownership journey with the Animal Welfare League this Thursday.

Get in early for your free veterinary health checks, vaccinations and microchips.

⏰ REMINDER ⏰

The Animal Welfare League NSW is bringing their Animal Care Truck to town on Thursday 11 April 2024.

The services are FREE to the public for up to 3 animals per household and comprise general health checks and microchipping for cats and dogs, C3 vaccinations for dogs, and there are limited F3 vaccinations for cats (at the discretion of the vet)!

The clinic will be set up at the top car park in front of the Rugby Field of Highbrook Park, Muswellbrook and will be operating from 8am-12pm. We ask that cars utilising the service park down in the bottom car park so as to allow sufficient space to set up the truck.

All cats must be kept in carriers and dogs must be kept on leads.

This is a great initiative by AWL NSW and we hope to see you there!

A massive thank you to Warm Paws for the amazing donations!

Enrichment is a BIG part of pet ownership and keeping those little minds happy, so these donations go a long way for our pound animals.

Another big thank you to Michelle for transporting some of our pound dogs to rescue.

We are very lucky to have such a great, caring network to help us provide the best we can for all the animals!

✅ Take your dog for a long walk before the fireworks start or before you leave for your party.
✅ Consult your vet if your dog has a history of anxiety.
✅ Set your dog up with a nice big juicy bone.
✅ Check out the local boarding kennels for any spaces that maybe available over the night.
✅ Ask a trusted friend or family relative that might be able to pet sit overnight.
✅ Consider staying at home with your dog.
✅ REMEMBER: an up to date microchip along with a collar and tag with your contact details will go a long way in returning your pet home if they do become frightened and try to escape the fireworks.

🐾 The same goes for other pets such as cats, guinea pigs, birds, horses. There are a bunch of websites that offer some great advice on how to keep your pets safe during fireworks. As humans we know what fireworks are, as animals they do not.

https://kb.rspca.org.au/knowledge-base/how-should-i-care-for-my-pets-during-fireworks-displays/

💥💥 Check out the below website to find out where displays are still programmed. Unfortunately, this does not cover the problematic and dangerous illegal fireworks that are set off in backyards and paddocks. 📞 If this occurs in your neighbourhood, please call your local police station or 000.

🤬 If you are one of those people that decides backyard fireworks would be a great idea, please feel free to join the number of broken hearted pet owners in your neighbourhood the next day who are looking for their scared animals that ran during your ‘great idea’. 🤦‍♂️
