Just a little bit of my background for those who do not know. I grew up around the conformation dog show scene. Where dogs are judged on their body structure, movement and coat type. Having started showing at the age of 7 I started to groom the dogs that I showed. 44 years later, after many dogs reaching the Australian Championships I’m still showing and grooming dogs. I came to work at Under 1 Woof after leaving the mill and since then have enjoyed every day, seeing all the different dogs, some with very quirky personalities and other wanting to take my head off (that’s always fun). After all how many people can say they are doing the job they enjoy.
At Under 1 Woof we do our best to make the grooming process as stress free as possible, by using different techniques to keep the dog calm, for example the use of a happy hoodie while blow drying for those who are spooked by the noise of the dryer. For those dogs that do not like the blower in their face, these dogs are put into the “oven” a plastic dog crate with a heating device attached that warms the air blowing around them, a gentle way to dry them.
The shampoos we use are proudly Australian made, Plush Puppy is known around the world as a top product. That was designed by hairdressers who showed dogs that couldn’t find shampoos that bring out the best of the dogs coat. With a selection of shampoos from everyday use, or colour enhancing, black shampoo for black dogs and whiting shampoo for white dogs, or for those pups that need it a sensitive shampoo, there is something for everyone. We now have a treatment for itchy sensitive skin pups where they sit and soak in an oxygenated solution to easy the irritation.
We take donations (no set charge) for the cutting of dogs nails which 100% of these donations go towards our Santa Paws gifts for the rescue dogs and cats to make their time in foster care a little bit easier. With that money we purchase bedding, treats, leads, collars and harness etc that can be either used or sold on to help raise money. We also accept donations of towels and used beds / toys that are still in good condition.
