Today is Pet Obesity Awareness Day.

The day serves as a reminder for pet owners to manage their pet's weight through balanced nutrition, regular exercise, and consistent vet visits to prevent issues like diabetes, heart disease, and joint problems.

The purpose of this day is to raise awareness about the critical issue of pet obesity and its negative effects on a pet's quality and length of life and to educate owners on how to maintain a healthy weight for their pets.

🩺 Health risks associated with pet obesity:
Cancer, Cardiovascular disease, Chronic inflammation, Diabetes, High blood pressure, Kidney dysfunction, Orthopaedic disease, Osteoarthritis, and Reproductive disorders.

🏋️ How to help your pet maintain a healthy weight:
✅ Consult your vet: Schedule regular checkups to monitor your pet's weight and discuss a tailored diet and exercise plan.
✅ Portion control: Carefully measure your pet's food and avoid free-feeding.
✅ Limit treats: Be mindful of the number of treats you give, and choose healthy, low-calorie options when possible.
✅ Regular exercise: Incorporate daily walks, playtime, and interactive toys into your pet's routine to keep them active.
✅ Avoid table scraps: Human food can contain too many calories for pets.

⚠️ The Truth About Pacing in Dogs: A Sign of Compensation, Not Efficiency

Introduction: Is Pacing in Dogs Really More Efficient?

There is a widely held belief in the dog world that a pacing gait—where a dog moves both legs on the same side of the body together—is more energy-efficient than a trot. That pacing is a restful gait, which allows for energy conservation.

🔎 However, biomechanical studies on both quadruped animals and quadruped robots suggest otherwise. In fact, pacing at trotting speeds is often compensatory, meaning the dog is likely adjusting its movement from a contralateral gait (trot) to an ipsilateral gait (pace) to avoid the torque inherent in a contralateral gait.

🧠 Understanding why this happens, and what we should be doing about it, is crucial for dog owners, trainers, and breeders.

Good morning everyone.
There has been a baiting in tuncurry and forster.
Please check your yards and stay vigilant with your pets.
These aren't my dogs or clients that have been effected but this is a warning to let everyone know this is happening.
This is why we crate our dogs when we aren't home. And why I enclosure train as well. 🐕🐾🧡
Stay safe everyone. 🧡🐕🐾

⚠️IMPORTANT MICROCHIP UPDATE FOR PET OWNERS
Soon HomeSafe ID, the microchip registration database used by AWLQ , RSPCA , many vets and rescue groups will no longer be functional
This means you will no longer be able to access the database to update details or identify your pet if it goes missing . We thus urge all our clients to check what company your pets microchip is with and if with HomeSafe ID register them with another company to keep them safe and easily identified if ever they should become lost.
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO
*Check your pets microchip Registration at Pet Address http://petaddress.com.au This will tell you which company your details are with . If you' re unsure of your microchip # we can scan your pet for you
*Re -register with another company if your details are with HomeSafeID . You can either do this by phone or online for a small fee set by the new registry
*It is also a good time if you are not with HomesafeID to check your details are correct with the registry you are with.
If you pet's registration is not updated and they become lost , vets, councils and shelters will be
unable to view your contact details when scanning the chip. This makes reuniting you with your pet
much harder
Please check NOW - this will ensure your pets future security and safety. ⚠️
