We had some breeding pairs of freshwater crabs last summer and that project was a total disaster, I did everything I was told but one by one they insisted on dying.
When I emptied the original crab tank there was an unexpected lone survivor which was put into one of the rain chamber tanks as I had no where else, a few weeks later I found either shed crab skin or remains and then the food stopped disappearing, never saw it again.
Until today! 4 months later.
So today was pruning back the severely overgrown plants in the rain chamber and started feeling around in all the holes and crevices and found the little finger pincher, seems Mrs Snips has survived all winter with no heater, no filter, lots of sunken timber, no food and no pH adjustment - all the things they said not to do and she has grown twice the size.
Once again not sure what to do with her as I now need the rain chamber for froggo's or maybe its time to just build another rain chamber and this is now the crabitat
We are slowly upgrading all of our enclosures one by one and heres a quick sneak peak at our magnificent tree frog enclosure which is still currently being worked on π
It has full heating and cooling, app controlled lighting, wind, rain and a 200 litre pond insert in the bottom of it.
Can't wait to finally get them in here in another few weeks π
Thanks to everyone who entered our prize give away, we had 120 entries through 2 posts but there can only be one winner.
Congratulations @Cait Caunt!! You were lucky number 25 on my list mate. Send us a message to organise pick up or delivery.
Thanks for playing legends, we will do another one soon π

Cool little vivarium build, all up only took me one an a half hours, without the overnight dry time for the back wall.
Video is a bit long at 3 minutes, hope it comes through ok π πΈ
@Jemma
Someone is thoroughly enjoying a second rain shower this morning.
**edit* I just watched this and realised the bell frogs are bombing my vid in the background π
Not my usual build but was quick, just using bunnings materials- aluminium tube and sunlite polycarbonate panels. Spent a few hours after work each day knocking it up and only took around 6 hours start to finish.
I like it, it's light and can be wheeled easily around on the back deck to suit the seasons or brought inside when needed and I like the little built in hide with side access π
See how it fares but so far so good.
For anyone looking for the 'Living Gold' vivarium substrate at the Brisbane Reptile Expo 2024 we have some vendors there that will be stocking substrate and drainage layer kits, including Hatched - Reptiles & Supplies
It's building up to be an amazing weekend of everything reptile π
Had a call out for a "baby brown" this morning, instead found this little fella chilling. Cute AF.
Made my day π
Almost there for the Qld Reptile Exhibition at RNA showgrounds this weekend!!
We have been inundated with messages and pre orders and unfortunately we won't be bringing our BIG magnificent tree frog display to this one.
But we will be bringing:
Red eyeds, magnificents, Dainties, ornate burrowers, Green tree frogs, Roth's tree frogs, dwarf tree frogs, whistling tree frogs, albino marsh frogs, white lippeds, bell frogs plus more.
Our new vivarium substrate "Living Gold" will be available singly and also as a full kit, complete with drainage layer, barrier mesh, pathogen free leaf litter and botanicals mix.
We have created an aussie ABG substrate, designed with input from the world's leading soil biologists, hydrologists and zoologists, there is nothing on the market like it. The mycorrhizal system alone has been tested and proven to benefit over 4000 plant species.
We will have a huge selection of vents available for enclosures and hatchy tubs direct from Insect Keeper and also books, isopods, mosses plus much more. Come and see us it will be epic!
Almost there!!
I started this substrate project almost 2 years ago with the intention of just shoving a bit of stuff in a bag and it has snowballed into 18 trial products and over $2k in soil tests through EAL. Finally got the carbon ratio sorted, PH is on point and enough natural, slow release minerals to last 50 years +.
100% non toxic with absolutely zero pine bark.
We start packaging our very first product next week!!
