Did you hear?! Today is Vet Nurse Day!

On this day, and every day - we highlight the important role our vet nurses play on the day to day. And it’s not a single role, vet nurses take on the role of:
💉: anesthesiologist
🩸: phlebotomist
☢️: radiographer
👩‍⚕️: surgical assistant
🦷: dental hygienist
🐶: patient comforter
📞: receptionist
📚: educators
🆘: emergency and critical care
📝: consultations
💊: administering medications
💧: a shoulder to cry on (both humans and pets)
….just to name a few!

Our nurses are highly skilled, highly trained, equiped with a world of knowledge and compassion and dedication that is unmatched.

They are by your pets side from admission to discharge, ensuring that their number one priority is their safety and comfort. And not only by your pets side, but right by yours also.

Our nurses are the back bone of the clinic. Ensuring that every day runs as smoothly as it possibly can. You can always count on the nurses to make sure your babies bellies are full upon every visit!

Every day they give your pets and families their all. You can rest well at night knowing your babies are more than safe in their hands.

No amount of words will encapsulate our appreciation for our nurses - so next time you see them in clinic, let them know how much you appreciate them too!

Thank you, nurses - for today, tomorrow and every day.

Chickens have some pretty clever ways of beating the winter chill, but they may still need your help. Like all birds, chickens use their feathers for insulation by fluffing them up and trapping the air. But for the times when nature is hard to predict, good pet care involves providing appropriate refuge.

❄️Insulation❄️
In cold parts of Australia, you could insulate your chicken coop with tree branches, cardboard, or straw. Care should be taken if hay or straw is used for insulation, as these can become infested with mold and vermin and carry chicken parasites. Also, remember to keep the insulation tidy. Keeping the coop clean and dry is essential as most bacteria, fungi, and parasites thrive in warm, moist environments.

☀️Warmer climates☀️
If you live in one of the warmer Australian states then you probably won’t need to install insulation in your chicken coop at all. Open, ventilated coops are more important. Learn more tips on coop setup on our website, or alternatively, visit your local Greencross Vets for expert advice.

Bringing your cat to the vet can sometimes be stressful, for you and your cat. But it doesn’t have to be! 🐈‍⬛

Cats are independent animals and they like to be in control of their environment. Any unfamiliar sights and smells can upset them. Here are some helpful hints to make visits to the vet clinic less stressful. 💚

Winter is here! We feel it's going to be a super cold one, and chances are if you are feeling cold your furry friend is too.

Here are some ways to keep your pet warm in the Winter:

💚Keep your pet inside
💚Provide a warm, soft, elevated bed
💚Warm coats are great for pets that are senior, small or have thin coats
💚Move your guinea pigs hutch inside the house or garage
💚Provide extra straw and hay so small pets can burrow and hide
💚Keep all bedding dry
💚Wrap a loose blanket over your pet, but don’t tuck them in. They still need to be able to move away from it if they overheat
💚Walk your furry friend during the day when it’s not as cold

🚨 Attention Pet Owners! 🚨

Emergency and Specialty Vets are sounding the alarm about the rise in paralysis ticks affecting our pets. 🐾 With the unseasonal warmth lingering into autumn and rain, the conditions are ripe for these dangerous pests.
At Animal Referral Hospital (ARH) Gosford, several beloved pets have tragically lost their lives due to severe tick paralysis. Dr. Natashia Evans, an Emergency and Critical Care Specialist at ARH Gosford, emphasises the importance of year-round parasite prevention, even as we transition into winter.

Skipping prevention can lead to devastating consequences.
Even a delay of just one or two days can put your pet at risk. Set reminders, and if in doubt, administer prevention a couple of days early.

Pet owners are urged to perform daily tick checks, as early detection can save lives.

For emergency assistance, contact your nearest animal hospital: https://www.emergencyvet.com.au/contact-us.html
