☀️🥵HEAT STRESS🥵☀️

🔥With these hot Summer days - now is the time to keep a close eye on our pets that spend their days outside!

🔥Heat stress/stroke is a serious condition that needs intensive veterinary care. It can occur suddenly & without much warning. Symptoms to look out for include: increased thirst, excessive panting, weakness/ collapse, vomiting, tremors or seizures.

🔥Brachycephalic breeds (dogs with short noses), young animals & overweight animals are particularly susceptible. If you notice symptoms of heat stress:
* Remove your pet from the hot environment
* Offer fresh water & splash cool water over their body
* CAREFUL when using wet towels for cooling, if placed over their body it may trap the escaping heat in
* CALL THE CLINIC

⭐️Are you ready for holidays? If you’re going away for Christmas holidays, now is the time to check if your pets are up to date with their vaccinations & parasite prevention. This is especially important if you’re heading to the coast where paralysis ticks are present!

⭐️WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 18TH will be the last day of the year to order in medications & prescription food - please call the clinic prior to Wednesday to place your orders.

⭐️ Below are our Christmas opening hours - this year the team will be having a well deserved break & the clinic will be closed December 25th-29th. For emergencies AllPets Veterinary Clinic will be available.

🪨TWO SURGERIES, ONE STONE🪨

‼️Warning: Graphic surgical video in comments!

🐶 Zola the dachshund was initially booked in for routine desexing surgery.

🩺 While Dr Alison was examining her prior to surgery she felt a very large, abnormally firm bladder.

🩻 X-rays revealed a large bladder stone that was 6cm in diameter!

✂️ Dr Alison removed the stone at the same time as performing the spey.

🍀 Zola is lucky to have avoided serious urinary problems in the future and will be feeling much more comfortable now!

🦷DENTAL DAY 🦷

😁Nurse Nikki was busy today - she performed a “scale & polish” on 3 of our canine patients!

🪥Under general anaesthetic each patients receives a comprehensive oral examination to assess teeth, gums and tongue. A “scale & polish” is where the calculus build up on each tooth is mechanically removed to show the clean pearly white tooth underneath!

⁉️Did you know: we offer FREE nurse dental check consultations! One of our friendly nursing staff will assess your pets dental grade & provide recommendations on home care or dental procedures.

🐮SUNNY C-SECTIONS🐮

☀️Dr Alison and Dr Vanesa had a beautiful day out of the office assisting this heifer who was having troubles calving.

🔪It was quickly decided that a caesarean section was needed to safely deliver this big bull calf. He was a very strong calf, trying to stand just minutes after delivery!

🪡Soon after walking out of the crush the cow’s maternal instincts kicked in and she was mothering the calf in no time!

🚨Is your dog on consistent heartworm prevention?

🦟Heartworm is a parasite called Dirofilaris immitis. It is a worm that lives in your dog’s heart and lungs. Heartworm is spread by mosquitoes.

💉Heartworm can be present in dogs long before clinical signs appear. Now is the time to have your dog tested for heartworm, by a quick in-house blood test and starting them on consistent heartworm prevention!

🐌DOES YOUR HORSE HAVE LIVER FLUKE?🐌

🦠Fasciola hepatica, commonly known as Liver fluke, is a trematode parasite affecting species such as sheep, cattle, horses and goats.

🗺️Liver fluke is NOT common in our region and is typically found in the tablelands and eastern part of the state where there is high rainfall.

🩸We have had an increase in enquiries about this disease. Diagnosis of liver fluke is primarily through blood and faecal testing. Testing is generally required when transporting horses to WA - travelling horses we have tested previously have returned negative results.
